The VO70 "Giacomo" by Jim Delegate has been declared the absolute winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart 2016 in a compensated time. The New Zealand ship completed a perfect tour, reaching Hobart in second position in real time, just two hours behind the historic record set by the "Perpetual Loyal."

"Perpetual Loyal" armed by Anthony Bell has proclaimed himself a real-time winner of the Rolex Sidney Hobart 2016, setting a new record in the classic ocean of the South Hemisphere. The Australian supermaxi, which was on board with the Spanish Antonio Cuervas- Mons and Pablo Arrarte, completed the 628-mile tour between Sydney and Hobart, in Tasmania, in 1 day, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 02 seconds, spraying for almost five hours the previous record of the test. The 100-foot length supermaxi (30.5 meters) stopped the crone in 1 day, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 20 seconds, sailing at a spectacular average speed above 16 '7 knots. The time set by "Perpetual Loyal" improves in 4 hours, 51 minutes and 52 seconds the previous record, set by Wild Oats XI in 2012 in 1 day, 18 hours, 23 minutes and 12 seconds.

The "Perpetual Loyal" has been co-sponsored by its shipowner, Anthony Bell (winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart in real time in 2011), and also Australian Tom Slingsby (winner of the Rolex World Sailor of the Year award as the world's best regatist in 2010). On board they have had a good number of ocean experts among their 19 crew, such as the navigator Tom Addis (co-navigator of the Wild Oats XI in the 2012 record), the New Zealand Chris Nicholson, or the Antonio "Ñeti" Cuervas- Mons and Pablo Arararte, both with the responsibility of chief of guard.
