The world's toughest rowing race part of the Gomera heading for Barbados
The Bay of San Sebastián de la Gomera fired the twelve teams participating in the world's toughest rowing race, the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challegue. One more year they venture to travel 3,000 miles to Barbados with the momentum of the oars. In the event of departure, the tourist councillor, María Isabel Méndez, along with the mayor of San Sebastián, Adasat Reyes, were in charge of giving the exit signal to the participating teams who were prepared on the dock of the gomera capital. The start of this competition puts an end to several weeks of port-walk preparations, in which more than twenty television stations from various countries have been interested in La Gomera and the opportunities it offers as a starting point for sports competitions. As for the characteristics of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and its participants, it should be noted that during the journey the remers will need to eat between 4,500 and 6,000 calories per day, as they can lose between 5 and 15 kilos throughout the competition. The boats have a maximum of five crew members, in addition to a revival for the days of the journey and a device that will turn the sea water into drinking water.
