The Harbour Authority of La Coruña guarantees the full operation of Punta Langostreira

The Port of La Coruña receives the work of the contradique of Punta Langostreira, which completes the coat of the water sheet and guarantees full operation. A savings of €20M has been achieved in the total investment for the project, which included the execution of 300 metres and the extension of the area of explanade, which already amounts to 185 hectares.
The Harbour Authority of A Coruña has received the work carried out within the project of the second phase of the contradique of the Exterior Port. The execution of the contradique, which has been essential to complete the coat of the outer port water sheet, has been divided into two phases. The first consisted of the execution of the first 550 meters of length of the spikon, as well as the protection of the water intake of the Sabon thermal power plant. The second phase that has been delivered today allowed to reach the total length, which is 1,327 linear meters. This work completes the process to achieve the full operativeness of access and maneuverability of ships within the sheltered waters of Langoseira, which exceeds 97%, even greater than that of the interior port, and is 100% in the area of the oil pants.
The total investment for this infrastructure amounted to EUR 53.5 million, a saving of EUR 20 million over the amount of the work tender. The optimization of resources has not only not affected the performance of the espionage, but the system used to reduce costs and implementation times has also increased its resistance and conservation against the weather inclemences. Special blocks, with particular dimensions and characteristics, called cubipods, were designed. They were used for the protection of the mantle of the contradique, and 9,758 of these concrete blocks, of between 15 and 45 tons, were needed, which were built in the very facilities of the Exterior Port.
With regard to the 300-meter dock set in this project, its plank is 15.5 metres, and is intended for operators working with ships that do not need the 22-metre plank that reaches the plank of water in the area of the main plank. In the environment of this new line of docking has already been installed Maritime Terminals of Galicia, TMGA, with an industrial ship of 2,500 square meters, which is added to those already granted in the surroundings of the main dock.
