‘Ashandar WOP’ y ‘Boreal’ ganan con poco viento la clásica Regata del Gallo - Esta tradicional prueba, que tuvo 80 barcos participantes, cerró el calendario de 2016 del Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club - El paso del espectacular grupo de embarcaciones bajo el Puente Colgante supuso de nuevo una imagen única

"Ashandar WOP" and "Boreal" have won the Regata del Gallo 2016 that has organized as traditional the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club de Las Arenas in the area of the Vizcaya Bridge, the incomparable "Bizkaia Zubia"

The "Ashandar WOP" of Lorenzo Mendieta in the AB class, which reedited his victory of the previous year, and the "Boreal" of José María Trueba were imposed in the spectacular Regata del Gallo, the best colophone to the wide calendar of competitions that he has scheduled during 2016 that soon ends the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club. The last annual meeting of the candle was held in the Abra with little wind, from the southwest and from 3 to 4 knots at the exit, to go down as the test went forward. So much so that only a dozen of the 80 participating ships entered within the time limit set by the organization. The 'Ashandar WOP', in the six miles of the AB class, ended in front of the 'Gaitero' of Juan Valdivia, the 'Akelarre' of Mauricio Guibert, the 'Zazpiki Lovely Rita' of Juan Ignacio Gomeza and the 'Maitena' of Mikel Emaldi. In class C, with 4 '6 miles of tour, the' Boreal 'overtook the' Nexus', 'Blai' and 'Aizian'.

The classic Regata del Gallo was once again one of the most participatory sailing races in the Cantabric. This massive test has been consolidated as one of the references of the Vizcino sport during this time of year. The impressive image of 80 cruises sailing under the Pendant bridge, with its color candles deployed, was again admired and photographed by the hundreds of amateurs and curious that are placed on the two banks of the Ria. The almost 100 ships of the cruise classes and J 80, no ship of the latter class entered the time limit, sailed with little wind, and shortly after it stopped raining, from the dart of the Benedicta of Sestao to cross the emblematic bridge of Bizkaia.

The waters of the Abra welcome for these Christmas dates one of the most unique and participatory races of the sailing of southern Europe. The classic and massive Regata del Gallo is, in the middle of December and together with the arrival of the winter season, one of the references of the candle of the Cantabric during this time. The impressive image of dozens of cruises sailing under the Pendant bridge, with its wide color candles deployed to the wind, is admired and photographed by the dozens of amateurs and curious that are placed on both sides of the Ria. This Saturday, from 12: 00, and if wind conditions allow, about a hundred ships of the cruise classes and J-80 will leave from the dársena of the Benedicta of Sestao to cross the emblematic bridge of Bizkaia. From this historic and unique point, World Heritage since 2006, the crews will sail to the waters of the Abra, where they will complete a tour of about 10 miles to decide the last winners of the year 2016 at this event organized by the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club. The passage through the mythical bridge always results from the most spectacular and portrays a wonderful picture at this annual sailing party.

La Regata del Gallo no tiene parangón en toda España

The Regata del Gallo has no parangón throughout Spain

The test is one of the most expected by all the regatists, which allow this Regata del Gallo to be the most popular test of each sailing season next to the Regata a la Inversa on May 1, as there will be several hundred athletes in the water. The final point of the 2016 race calendar, scheduled by the Vizcadno club, invites many people to place themselves on the banks of Portugalete, Santurtzi and Las Arenas to photograph this wonderful group of ships. The most sought-after snapshot is the initial step of the race through the Pendant Bridge before setting the Abra. The Vizcana fleet will be present massively on Saturday in a race whose colofon takes place later in the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club with a flood and the award of some of the social races of the year.

Es reconfortante y de agradecer que el Marítimo salvaguarde nuestras tradiciones marineras

It is comforting and to thank the Maritime for safeguarding our marine traditions

The very Christmas awards are: the award of the Gallo, to the most outstanding crew or regatist of the year 2016, and the prize of the Pata, to whom is chosen for making the failure that has given you to speak in this sport of the candle during the competitions of the season that is already over. Not to mention that it is absolutely compulsory to take the award won... There are many anecdotes about some patterns that "dared not to take the Pata" as deserving to a nautical grate of care... among them the unforgettable and longed José Luis de Ugarte who, after expanding his spinnaker for a fist of amura, hesitated to receive his deserved prize... another one that is no longer among us José Luis Azaqueta "Tacos" convinced him "kindly" of the desirability of passing through the prize table to collect it... and that is that "coñas" apart in the Arenas tradition is above all...
