The Medal Race of the Sailing World Cup Final, held on Saturday in the waters of Melbourne (Australia), provided a wide range of results for the four Spanish crews that were played on the podium. Ivan Pastor in RS: X Male and Florian Trittel in Formula Kite finished seconds and Marina Paliau in RS: X Female and Diego Botín and Iago López Marra in 49er made an off-line on their respective Medal Race that ended up leaving them off the podium.

In RS: X Male Ivan Pastor was able to control the situation and know that to reach the Dutch Kirian Badloe - who would eventually win the Medal and the race - it would be complicated, his intention was to control those behind him. The Alicantino finished the seventh Medal, attached to the off-line of which he was his main rival, the British Tom Squires, used him to maintain the second place in the general, as the Japanese Makoto Tomizawa would not pass the fifth place. With all this, Pastor was made with silver with an advantage point above the nippon. The Sergi Scandinell baleares - which made a good Medal finishing fourth - closed their participation in Melbourne seventh in the general and Joan Cardona, tenth.

A total of 24 tests were held throughout the week in Formula Kite. Florian Trittel was all over the championship in the first positions, and although in the past penultimate day he was fourth, he was able to get over and finish second in the general, taking the silver, just over by the British Oliver Bridge. Third was his brother Guy Bridge. The Valencian Alejandro Client closed the competition in the sixth place of the final general.

The RS: Women X opened the day of Medal Race. Marina Paliau left second in the general, but made an off-line in the Medal Race - a race that scores double and is not discards. This meant that not only could he not fight for the title, but he would also lose his podium options falling to the fifth position in the general. He won the Medal Race and the Polish Regatta Zofia Nocti-Klepaka and the four Chinese outnumbered the Spanish, Manjia Zheng - second -, Yunxiu Lu - third - and Jiao Ma - fourth.

In 49er to Diego Botín and Iago López Marra something similar happened to Paliau. On this occasion a general call, in which the Committee failed to locate the ships that had gone off-line, followed a new black flag exit. Botín and López Marra left seconds in the classification with just one point behind the Australian brothers William and Sam Phillips. It seemed that all of them would be played by Australians and Spaniards, but both crews would go back out of line without a chance of return and on this occasion the Regatas Committee did see them and ended up with a BDF (disqualified by black flag). The Phillips fell to the fifth place and the crew was singing-galician to the seventh. Those who left third parties, the Austrians Benjamin Bilds tein and David Hussl, who would also win the Medal, would win.

Melbourne World Cup closes the 2016 World Cup world circuit. The next Olympic sailing race and youth classes of the World Sailing will be Christmas Race, to be held from 18 to 22 December, in the waters of Palamós Bay (Girona).
