The 36th International Congress had as one of its objectives the approval of the new executive structure, which will have to face in the short term the changes that are being demanded from the International Olympic Committee: gender equality (already approved), more attractive Olympic TV programme, and media improvement of athletes. Measures that have to be used to modernize our sport and make it more competitive in the face of the new disciplines that are struggling to enter the JJOO. In other words, we must improve substantially if we want to maintain the 16 medals of Olympic Piragüism after Tokyo.

As a new and high-rise example, the "Stand Up Paddle" discipline was presented, which incorporates the Surf, a sport that will be Olympic in Tokyo, and which was defended by the president, as an opportunity to include a growing and attractive modality. Perurena explained that this is a canoe-like modality, and that in its "Race" aspect it had all the elements of Piragüism, and in several countries it was already considered within our sport. The proposal was put to the vote and approved by a majority of the Congress.
