Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio 2016
World Sailing event director Alastair Fox and Rio 2016 sailing director Walter Boddener have presented their reports on the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Fox has offered the view of World Sailing, in relation to water quality, the classification process and the sports development of the competition. The sailing competition in Rio 2016 established two new records: that of participating nations (66) and that of countries that achieved medal (17). The Federation CEO has stressed that in the qualifying race campaign for Rio 2016 up to 94 countries participated, and that the target for the qualifying for Tokyo 2020 is to exceed 100 countries.
As for the Paralympic Games, the adapted sailing world of 2014 and 2015 had a participation of up to 34 countries with Paralympic aspirations. They got square 22 nations.
