José García-Bravo: The Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena is a reference and we hope to maintain that reality and consolidate it

José García- Bravo has recently assumed the helm of the Real Club de Regata de Cartagena after winning the elections by 220 votes in favour, one of the sign clubs of the Spanish nautical. Another alternative was presented in this election, led by Arturo García, who received 124 votes. The new president, who happens in charge of Miguel Ángel Celerán, speaks of the present but also of the future with a defined lines, with a strategic plan for the Club "has the necessary resources to ensure its solvency". In this regard, he stresses that "the basis will be the continuity and improvement as far as possible of sports activities, knowing that the current level of sports is very high... and on the other hand the development and implementation of an action plan, we can call it strategic to ensure that the Club's solvency."

As for the reasons for taking over the club, Garcia- Bravo explains that "my group and I have been moved by the idea that the Regatas Club needs a change in terms of improving the economic and financial situation. It is also necessary to reverse the current loss of partners and to have a more visible position towards society."In this line the new president, as well as his board of directors, ensures that the club will face changes, although he points out that "during the preparation of our action plan it will be necessary to make some adjustments. What can be advanced is that we have the entire current team of people". With regard to the situation of the current club, Garcia- Bravo points out that "the partners have called for a change in a clear way according to the outcome of the elections. The club is a reference in the nautical activities and the partners, employees and the social environment hopes that our management will generate more illusion", adding that "we know, by the current results and our history, that we are a national reference and we want to maintain that reality and consolidate it."

The first references of the celebration of races in the Bay of Cartagena date from far 1858... only seven years after the first edition of the American Cup in the British Solent. With the creation of the Board of Works of the Port of Cartagena, 1875 is a year that marks an apogee in the nautical competitions, however the Club was born in 1905 with the creation of a specific dársena for bores. On October 22, under the chairmanship of Alberto Spotcor, the Regatas Club was born and in 1907 Alfonso XIII received the Board of Directors who appointed him as Honour President of the already Real Regatas Club of Cartagena. Another year indispensable for the history of the Club is 1910, as the construction of the new social building, which is inaugurated on April 14, 1912, begins.
