Valencia in 420 male and Palma in female oros of the Spanish Cup
The regatists of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia Carlos and Nacho Balaguer, and the crew formed by María Bover and Clara Llabrés, representing the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Club Nàutic S'Arenal, today rose with the Spanish Cup of class 420 in the male and female categories, respectively. The competition brought together 101 vessels from nine autonomous federations from last Thursday to this afternoon at the RCNP facilities. Despite the wind shortage throughout the championship, the organization managed to hold eight tests.
The Balaguer brothers had difficulty in maintaining the general's leadership, which they had accessed on the penultimate day of competition. Only two points were separated from Bover and Llabrés, who were second, and from Mary and Pilar Caba of the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, bronze in the general and subchampions in its category. The absolute men's Cup of Spain champions were also in the group of Sub 19, where the mallorquins Albert Torres and Xisco Alemany, five in the absolute classification, hung the silver after a spectacular rallying. The third place on this level was for Eduard Ferrer and Carlos de Maqua of the Nàutic El Balís Club, which also won in Sub 17 M, followed by the German Daniel Gottlich-Linus Klasen, and Lucas- Teo Parés of the Nautical Club of Blanes.
One of the most surprising performances of the championship was that of Giulietta Lang and Tess Provenzal of the Nautico de Palma, which were ranked in the tenth position and awarded the triumph in the categories Sub 17 and Sub 19 female, in addition to the absolute bronze, ahead of regatists with much more experience. Both of them have joined class 420 three months ago and have shown that they form one of the crews with the most projection of the national panorama, along with the world champion of Optimist in 2015, Aina Colom, and his partner Vicky Reynés del Arenal, who were eleventh and took the silver Sub 19 and Sub 17 women. Iset Segura and Elisendra Rahola del Balís were ranked in third position Sub 17 F, while Carlota Hernández and Ana Carrasco del Náutico de Vigo did the same in Sub 19 F.
Day 2: The wind conditions the second day of the Spanish Cup of 420
The Canarias María and Pilar Caba, and the Majorcan María Bover and Clara Llabrés punctured on the only test today but they remain on the podium The Committee of Regatas tried it until 4.30 p.m., but the wind was not finished to enable the dispute of which would have been the second manga of the day today in the Spanish Cup of class 420 which, from last Thursday until tomorrow, brings together 101 crews from nine autonomous communities in the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP).
The organization had to be satisfied to give only one exit for each group (Gold and Silver) and complete the one that was the sixth test of the championship. They painted the two female crews that led the general classification last Sunday and left the road free to get to the first square the team formed by the Valencians Carlos and Nacho Balaguer (Real Club Náutico de Valencia), who today won the race and face the final day tomorrow with a five-point advantage over the sisters Maria and Pilar Caba (Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria), and seven over the Majorcan María Bover and Clara Llabrés (RCNP).
The little wind, which was also very unstable, should in theory favour the lighter crews, but neither the Caba sisters nor the world subchampions, Maria Bover and Clara Llabrés, had their day. The first ended in the fifteenth square and could be ruled out as a worse result, while the Majorcan crossed the seventeenth line of arrival and were forced to add the points in their locker, as their most negative record is a eighteenth. However, the two female crews are still in podium positions.
If the Balaguer brothers are able to control their most direct rivals, they have everything to face to win the Spanish Cup, but, given the conditions that are being given these days in the Bay and that are expected not to change substantially tomorrow, any error can be paid very expensive. In any case, the Valencians have practically secured victory in the male category Sub 19, with permission from Henry and Pablo Luján (Nautical Club of Jávea), which are rooms tied to points with Bover and Llabrés.
Carlota Hernández and Ana Carrasco (Real Club Náutico de Vigo), seven, lead the female ranking Sub 19, while the former World Champion of Optimise Aina Colom and her partner, Vicky Reynés (both of the Club Nàutic S'Arenal), occupy the eighth place of the Golden Group and are the first Sub 17 female, even ahead of the best boys in this category, Eduard Ferrer and Carlos Maqua (Club Náutic El Balís). Among the provisional Top Ten is the presence of the young Giulietta Lang and Tess Provenzal (RCNP), newly incorporated into the 420 class and are sailing to a large level. The silver medal Sub 17 would be hung right now.
Mou Fraga, RCNP sports director and coordinator of the 420 Spanish Cup, said that the weather forecast for tomorrow is very similar to today's. "We will surely have to wait again for the heat to jump, but we will not be able to stay so long in the water because the race announcement does not see that it can be delivered later than 3.30 hours."
The closure of the Spanish Cup and the award of prizes will be held at 6 p.m. at the headquarters of the Real Club Náutico de Palma.
Day 1 - The Canaries Maria and Pilar Caba Hernández leaders of the Spanish Cup of 420
The sisters Maria and Pilar Caba Hernández and the local María Bover and Clara Llabrés have starred in an exciting duel in the second day of the 420 Spanish Cup, which has been again marked by the little wind in the Bay of Palma. The canaries are kept at the head of the general classification but the Majorcan have started the dating and are second to one point. The Real Club Náutico de Palma has lived today an intense day of regatta in which, although the wind has not made it easy, the 101 regatists present in Palma have been able to hold three tests. The day has started with a total calm in the Bay of Palma and the Committee has had to wait until almost 1 p.m. to begin the departures of the races. The start has been somewhat accidental, with general calls, black flags and an annulment in the face of the fall of the wind, but little by little a south-west thermal has been established that has ranged between the five and the eight knots.
With five tests held, participants have been able to rule out their worst result, an option that has led to some changes in the overall classification. The representatives of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria (RCNGC) María and Pilar Caba Hernández maintain the leadership of the competition although, after two good performances, they have ended up at the 15 in the third manga and have given their rivals air. World subchampions of 420 María Bover and Clara Llabrés (RCNP / Club Nàutic S'Arenal) have replaced yesterday's bad result and have not failed. They have added a fifth and two second positions that have allowed them to perform a large rebound. The Majorcan are now second to one point of the Canary crew.
One of the protagonists of the day was the Germans Daniel Göttlich and Linus Klasen who have won the first two sleeves. As a result they have climbed to the third position of the general classification. However, it must be borne in mind that since they are not national athletes, their classification does not count for the Spanish Cup and, therefore, Enrique and Pablo Luján Mora, of the Jávea Nautico Club, are those who occupy the third step of the provisional podium in addition to being the best in the category of Juvenil Sub 19.
In general they are followed by Carlos and Nacho Balaguer (Real Club Náutico Valencia) and Lala Akrich and Cata Homar (RCN Palma / CN s'Arenal), which have been imposed on the last test of the day. Aina Colom and Vicky Sisk (CN s'Arenal), who occupy the seventh place on the table, are now the best female team Sub 17, while the Catalans Eduard Ferrer and Carlos de Maqua (CN El Balís) are classified in the eighth square and are the best male couple Sub 17.
