Second Day: Spanish Domain in the General
The International Meeting Vigo City of Optimist, under the organization of the Royal Viguese Nautical Club, is serious. On a day with loose winds from the north-east but sufficient to dispute the trials, the regatta committee managed to complete four sleeves in the blue and red groups and three in the yellow to match the regatists and make the cut for the title: the group Oro, which this Monday is played the triumph, have accessed 83 regatists, and all points to that between the first five, four Spanish and one Belgian, will play the triumph. In addition, there are nine Spaniards at the Top Ten.
There have been surprises on this second day. Samuel Beneyto (RCN Gran Canaria), current champion of Spain, had gone very badly on the first day (posts 12 and 69) in the yellow group, but repeating group this Sunday showed that he wants to finish as high as possible and signed a third, an eleventh and a fifth positions that have taken him to the group Oro with 31 points. He's a long way from the leader... but he's here. Those who stayed outside the main group, of those who fight for the podium, were Alvaro Tortosa (CN Puerto Sherry), the first leader of the red group on Friday. He made sixth and also a thirty, but was condemned by two out of line who sank him. The offline were numerous on this day. The Gold group, of course, can boast of great emotions. There comes leader Ricardo Fernández (Marítimo de Canido), with an enviable regularity in the yellow group (two first, one fourth and one sixth) only tarnished by the discarding of an offline in the penultimate race of the day. Its 12 points are stalked by the 14 of Arnau Gelpi (CN El Balís), a Spanish regatist who signed a victory, a third place and two fifths squares in the red group... and an off-line in the last trial. Without demeaning other regatists, because any error can lead to glory or classified hell, two regatists of the RCN Sanxenxo, Yago Barca and Bruno Ameneiro, appear in third and fourth place, respectively, with 16 and 17 points. Barca signed a partial victory in the fifth race of the red group, in which Gelpi was, while Ameneiro added two wins in the blue. With the same score as Ameneiro is the Belgian William Risselin, with grimpola lusa (GCN Faro), who already in the Cidade Trophy of Viana, seven days ago (punctuable for the Atlantic week), ended it as second in male category. The final day is full of emotion. In addition to the Vigo title, the Optimist Excellence Cup circuit is also in play in the first place. Luis Simó (CN Javea, 18 points), Berta Campos (RCR Alicante, 20), Jaume Alcover (CN El Balís, 20), Helena Pérez Canal (Marítimo de Canido, 21), Mario Soares (Marítimo de Canido, 21) or Mariano Stinga (RCN Arrecife, 22) are a handful of podium points on a day that points to the control of the Spanish fleet against Belgians, Portuguese, British, Latvian, Mexican, Irish and Italian.

The Portuguese Salvador Fernandes (CV Tejo) and Benedita Rebelo (SC Porto) distributed the partial victories and totaled 6 and 8 points, respectively. In a day with many off-line, the fall of the wind in the magnificent race field in front of A Guía led to the return of the fleet to the marina and the decision of the regatta director, Fernando Giraldo, to advance 60 minutes the following days of competition, with order of departure for 10: 00 hours instead of 11: 00, seeking to take advantage of the saviour wind of mouth in the face of unfavorable weather parts.

Deportists from eight countries that have been coming in constant drip since Wednesday have copped the marina with the British as the first foreign expedition to appear. And first thing this Saturday, the last registered clubs will appear. The organization has counted 270 regatists of half a hundred nautical clubs for this first test of the Optimist Excellence Cup circuit, a competition sponsored by Aecio, the association that rules the class.
With more than 80 Portuguese registered, the foreign Navy adds up to 20 other ships between Belgians, Latvian, Italian, Irish, British and Mexican. Belgas and Latvian have already sailed the previous weekend in Viana do Castelo. In 2014 they competed in Vigo 204 units, when the test did not belong to the Excellence Cup, compared to 216 last fall, already in the select circuit. The percentage has now increased by about one third (32.3 per cent) and the number of countries represented has increased by two.
