Surfing: The Coruñese beach of Razo welcomes the Rip Curl Gromsearch European 2016
The best European young surfers are preparing to compete on the Galician beach of Razo, municipality of Carballo (A Coruña), at the European end of the Rip Curl GromSearch 2016, the international circuit that runs the five continents in search of young world surfing promises below the age of 16. The champions of the five European rounds of the circuit, held in Spain, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Italy, in the male and female category, will meet next week on the Costa da Morte Galician to contest the European title of the season. A total of 18 Riders will participate in the test. The Spaniards Diego Suárez (Canarias), Yael Peña (Canarias), Nadia Erostarbe (Euskadi) and Iara Domínguez (Euskadi) are the first on the list, the result of their victory in the national qualifying final recently held on the beach of Los Locos (Cantabria). To them will be added, as wildcard invited by the organization, the cantabre Sean Gunning (Cantabria).
In front of the five state surfers will be the respective champions of the rest of the country rounds: four French, four British, four Portuguese and an Italian sportsman, who will complete the European luxury distribution of the event. With a privileged environment and numerous surfing alternatives in the area (Soesto, Nemiña, Malpica...), the beach of Razo will be the perfect stage for the development of the championship, which has a seven-day waiting period, from October 31 to November 6, between which the best conditions of the waves will be sought to develop the test, which can be held on a single day of competition. Along with the honor of getting the European circuit crown, the champion and champion of the Razo test will have the opportunity to compete for the world title of the Rip Curl GromSearch in front of the best surfers in Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, the US and South Africa in an international final, to be held in spring 2017 "somewhere yet to be revealed" and whose location will be kept secret until a few weeks before the event. What is guaranteed is that it will be one of the best places in the world for surfing.
Since its inception in Australia in 1999, the GromSearch circuit has been discovering the best new talents of international surfing, such as world champions Gabriel Medina (BRA), Mick Fanning (AUS), Tyler Wright (AUS) or Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), or successful surfers Alana Blanchard (HAW), Matt Wilkinson (AUS), Jordy Smith (ZAF) or Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA). The European Rip Curl GromSearch final is sponsored by EQ, Smith Optics, FCS, Gorilla and Citroën, in collaboration with the Concello de Carballo, Art Surfcamp, Teiron Surfshop and Health & Sport.
