Voluntary divers along with waste taken from the bottom of the sea. Photo: Luis Velasco A group of voluntary divers and staff from the safety and environment area of Club de Mar Mallorca carried out yesterday Saturday, October 22, a campaign to clean the seabed of this marina. The activity focused on several pants located in the outside area of the club and allowed to recover numerous waste that over the years have been deposited in the bottom, including shopping carts, pipes, batteries, walkways, chains, remains of cabs and bottles. José Manuel Pérez, responsible for the safety and environment of the Club de Mar, explained that while divers working in the port usually carry out the extraction of objects, yesterday's was the first campaign that coordinated the efforts of the sailors and volunteers from the diving clubs Tech Dive, Explorer Extreme, Under Water and Isurus, as well as from the Academy of Marine Training School. "The objective," said Pérezos, "is to make users aware that it is very important to keep the port clean and to avoid accidental falls of walkways and other objects. The club's management has decided that this type of campaign will be carried out from now on an annual basis to keep all the dársena clean." At the end of the day, the Club de Mar Mallorca offered a barbecue to staff and volunteers involved in the activity. The recovered waste shall be separated by materials and delivered to approved managers.
