The Basque firm specialized in naval design and architecture moves to Vigo a team of up to 30 people for eleven months to set up a ship that will be in one of the largest in the world in its class

Oliver Design, a company specializing in design and naval architecture based in Getxo (Bizkaia), has just begun the work of enabling the interior of the "Bima Suci" sailboat, the new school ship of the Indonesian Navy, which will become its most emblematic unit for its dimensions and design. The Basque firm is carrying out, in the turnkey mode, the architectural project of a ship whose construction is carried out in the Freire Shipyards of Vigo. The new school ship (three-stick, Bricbara-style, Bergantin-style) will replace the veteran and currently in service "KRI Dewaruci," built in Germany in 1953, and will become the Jewel of the Crown of the Indonesian Navy, with functions of "floating ambassador" of the country in ports around the world. His name responds to the name of one of the main heroes of Javanese mythology, a symbol of strength, courage and righteousness.

Oliver Design's responsibility has focused on the architectural design of the ship and its interior spaces, a particularly complex work given that the "Bima Suci" has five decks and will host a crew of up to 200 people. In its 110 meters of length by 5.5 manga, the different ones have been carefully distributed: canteens, cabins, offices, diaper (depot) of arms, gams (panes) and all the necessary services for the crew (hospital, barbershop, laundry...), as well as spaces for the formation of cadets and for the reception of visitors. The architectural design of the ship has covered up to the slightest detail, from a warehouse for the instruments of the music band to the souvenirs store for those who visit the ship on any of its scales. It will also have two command bridges on the main deck, one for the ship's government and one second for cadet training.

The Getxo-based firm has aknow-howof a wide range in the design and qualification of classic sailboats. Jaime Oliver, founder and CEO of the company, collaborated with the late Celaya Shipyards in the planning and construction of the school ships "Beans"(Ecuador),"Gloria"(Colombia),"Simón Bolívar"(Venezuela) and"Cuauhtémoc"(Mexico), all built in Bilbao in the 1970s and 1980s. Juan José Alonso, last director of this shipyard based on the Erandio bank and closed in 1988, has also been involved as a consultant in the project"Bima Suci. "Oliver Desing also participated in 2006 in the reform and updating of the" Juan Sebastián Elcano "of the Spanish Navy, as well as in the design and empowerment of the"Corwith Cramer"the school ship of the students of the Sea Education Association of the University of Boston (USA). Other projects related to large sailboats have been on ships for tourism and recreational navigation, such as"Hamburg, "the"Germania Nova"(both of German flag) or"Sunset 88"(Swiss).

The project for the design and construction of "Bima Suci"was signed in Jakarta, Indonesian capital, in November 2013, following an international competition convened by the Indonesian Ministry of Defence, to which a dozen proposals were submitted. The project was awarded by Shiilleros Freire with an offer presented with the collaboration of Oliver Desing - in the section of architectural design and empowerment - and the German firm Detlev Loell & Partners - which will provide the gardening (set of ends and cables of the gear) and the velos. The construction of the ship in the Viguese shipyard began in October last year, and at the end of January took place the traditional ceremony of placing the keel, the piece on which it pivot the structure of the hull. The new ship dedicated to the formation of Indonesian Navy officers will combine a classic design with the latest naval technologies. It will have a main engine of 1,300 kW capable of reaching a speed of 12 knots, compared to the 15 that it will reach by sailing to full sail. As your predecessor, you will participate in international races and missions of good will.
