Rafael Rodríguez Valero, general director of Marina Mercante, will receive next day 21 the Cross to the Naval Merit, granted by the Navy in care of the merits of Rodríguez Valero for the maritime safety and well-being of the men of the sea. The cross will be imposed on you in the Honour Room of the Navy headquarters in Madrid. Prior to his appointment as general director, Rafael Rodríguez Valero served as a professor in the area of machines and thermal engines at the School of Nautics and Machines of La Coruña, and as inspector of Lloyd's Register of Shipping. From the general direction of Marina Mercante, Rodríguez Valero has promoted the nautical recreation, both in its fiscal aspects and in its aspects of qualifications and competences; maritime safety, security of human life at sea and safety of navigation; and the maritime business sector. But where the work of Rodríguez Valero as general director has shone especially has been in the management of marine accidents and accidents. There have been no disasters during his term of office, despite accidents that may have ended this way, and this has been largely due to the professional competence of his management and his determination as a national maritime authority.
