The two Weeks, blur and new account?

In 1983 the so-called Baiona Week was created, the first serious, modern project in Galicia to follow the steps of the best known and prestigious "week" in Europe. From the hand of Mount Real Club de Yates, a total of four editions were held... in those that were given the absolute prize to which he achieved the highest number of first in his class, a "gold map of Galicia..." something unthinkable today. In competition the beautiful Baionese ría was covered in white, with hundreds and hundreds of windsurfing candles, snipes, optimist, vaurien, cadete, first class 8, cruises... The victories of Felix Gancedo and those of the sponsors starting with Larsa, Adolfo Domínguez, Don Cotton, BMW, Coca Cola, DYC, Jotun Valentine, Chantiers Beneteau, Rolex, Zanussi, Cartier, Hublot, Seat...

In the 86 is organized the last edition that would be won by a young promise of the Royal Nautical Club of Portosín the optimist then José Manuel Pérez... the exhaustion of this week for the enormous effort that was necessary, together with the birth of the Trophy Prince of Asturias precipitate its end... We arrived in 1999 the Real Club Náutico de Vigo offers me to come in to collaborate with them, me and the entire team among which was Antonio Viejo and Francisco José Estévez "Paco Pepe..." Because of strict institutional delicacy I do not accept the offer until the following year (my departure of the MRCY de Baiona was very recent and was also working intensively for the Abra Maritime). In the project that is drawn for the Nautico, the Atlantic Week is created that starts in 2000 with a first edition in which it is part with a Martín Barreiro that was only attached to 30 snipes, 20 vauren and 50 optimist... and with these sorrows plus 420, cruises, classics and motoronautics the event grows by the hand then of Mapfre, Adelas and Audasa basically... in the face of a perplete Nautico that was surprised by the support of the optimist... for the team of the good of Manolo de Frainera... have changed the things. This new "week" is already born with a multisport vocation and with a tendency to have a cultural section, as one of the main objectives of the project is the commemoration at the gates of the Battle of Rande...

After many years of work and effort the week with Caixanova already as sponsor, it reaches an apotheosic edition with even more than a thousand ships, great cultural cycles, classic cars, the presence of several clubs... and even a World Cup of Platu 25 with more than 20 countries, three continents and 95 ships!... already with some cuts is reached to 2012 that is when the last edition of the "truth" takes place... The obvious dystonia following Franco Cobas's march from the presidency, with the "new managers" is complete and absolute. The result is a break-up and two "weeks" are held on the stage. One with the pillars of history, the other returning to its grey origins of the Martin Barreiro. The one with an external projection, the other locking itself in the shell of localism... until the Nautico wants to compete with the "another week... ours" on the Portuguese plane as one of the cycles is organized in Leixóes... the Nautico vigués gets into Viana do Castelo... Time will give reasons to both. While our Week has introduced the rowing (it was an idea since it was founded in 2000) and has moved to other places (it had been requested by Caixanova already in 2005), that of the Nautico has reduced an enormity, except for the race of optimist in which it has returned to the Circuito of Excellence of the AECIO, curiously created by Francisco Coro with my support in its day...

There are already many voices and some tremendously authorized ones that have suggested and advised the current president of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo to agree with the week travel and to leave with a pact between the two events, or if you want to join to form one. In favour of globalization and unity, and that the Nautico currently has a dialogous and respectful president such as Ballesta, and a vice president who knows well the development of which today is Abanca Week, and with which I also join a friendship as far away in time as real, José Antonio Portela. Against those who take refuge in their ignorance, and who appeal to a certain senseless chauvinism, and that the truth is of their exclusive heritage. Perhaps in the medium to long term it will be a good idea to unite the two "weeks," but today it is simply a desire of those who want unity and not distance... it is like Gibraltar becomes Spain... one day it will be a reality, but to this day in the short term it is not feasible.

At the moment there are two "weeks" with totally different and incompatible projects... which on the other hand is not bad or much less... because they only have in common the last name of "week..."
