The new class of GC32 catamarans flies in Sotogrande waters
Sailing is a sport that is constantly evolving. The Copa América is the competition that usually marks the way and the pattern to follow. The RC 44 were a miniature copy of the AC class, with which it was competed in the 1990s until 2007 and from 2010 the multistage revolutionaries came into play with the 33 Copa América in Valencia in which Alinghi competed in a maxi catamaran and Oracle did it with a trimaran. There was the turning point.
The 34 Copa América, which was held in San Francisco in 2013, meant the total revolution with the flying catamarans, the AC 45 and the AC 70. From there the candle has gone towards these models and the last to appear have been the GC 32, with two tests in Spain - the Copa del Rey Mapfre and La Reserva Sotogrande.
The latter is being held these days in the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar with these ships that, in addition to sailing, fly. Nautical Digital has been an exceptional witness and has competed in one of the tests on board Team Engie, a French team led by Sebastién Rogues. It was during the second of the four days of this race.
In the eighth manga Team Engie has dominated from beginning to end, from the same exit to the arrival the galo ship ahead of the great favorite the Norcar, which patrons Adam Minoprio, and had won the first seven sleeves consecutively.
In Sotogrande, in addition to Team Engie and Norauto, the participation of the Malizia of Monegasque Pierre Casiraghi - son of Stefano Casiraghi and Carolina de Monaco - or the Japanese Mamma Auito in which three Spaniards Manu Weiller, Javier de la Plaza and Ramon Aixemeno compete stands out.
