Vehicles, agro-food products and construction materials are growing until July.

The Port of Tarragona has moved 16,806,005 tons from January to July 2016. During this period, the port infrastructure has recorded growth in different traffics such as vehicle movement (+ 38%); agrofood products (+ 9.3); petrol (+ 15.1%), oil energy gases (+ 27.9%); metallurgical products (+ 10.4%); construction materials (+ 14.6%) and asphalt (+ 21.1%). However, these increases have not prevented a decrease in total freight traffic by 11.6% less than in the same period last year. This decrease in total traffic is caused by the decrease in the movement of coal this year (about 1.7 million tons) and the decrease in the movement of gas oil and other oil products.
  • The Port of Tarragona is one of the first ports in the Mediterranean in terms of traffic in agri-food products. From January to July, the port facility has handled 2.6 million tons, a 9.3% increase over the same period last year.
  • In the energy traffic sector, an increase has been highlighted in petrol with a total of 359,629 tons moved (+ 15.1%) as well as the energy gases of oil with more than 695,242 tons (+ 27.9%); despite the decrease of crude oil (-8%), gas oil (-59.8%) and other oil products (-22.9%) and coal (-21.5%).
  • Port de Tarragona maintains its position as port hub of refined oil products. The specialized terminals attract large petrochemical vessels from international destinations, and from here the product is distributed to other Mediterranean ports.
  • The Port of Tarragona continues with a significant increase in the movement of vehicles. As of July, the vehicle terminal has transported almost 100,000 units, 38.1 per cent more than in the same period of the previous year and almost exceeding the total number of vehicles moved throughout 2015. Growth has been recorded in both import (+ 51.3%) and export (+ 13%).
  • In the first months of the year, traffics are consolidated in the framework of the drive for the diversification of goods in the Port of Tarragona, such as metallurgical products (+ 10.4%), iron scrap (+ 2%) and asphalt export (+ 21.1%), intended for countries in North Africa.
