Lucida to deliver the National Terra Guda Sailing Awards in Monte Real
The Mount Real Club of Yates of Bayona organized as it has been in the 1980s, the ceremony to deliver the National Sailing Awards of the Terra Guda, some awards that recognize the work done by different people, companies and institutions in favor of the sailing world. The Olympic Támara Echegoyen and Berta Betanzos, world champions in the 49erFX class and Olympic diploma in the 2016 Rio Games, certainly took away the great ovation of the night. The Orosenana and the Cantabra collected the award for the best team of women's races by the president of Bodegas Terras Gauda, José María Fonseca Moretón, and the president of the Monte Real Club de Yates, José Luis Alvarez, and took the applause of the more than half a thousand attendees to the gala. They also made his coach, the good man Pepe Lis, who was given his prize for being, they said, a key piece in the successes.
Another of the Olympic winners tonight in Baiona was the Sevillian Arturo Montes, who was awarded the best Paralympic athlete of the year. The regatist was unable to attend the gala for being trained in Rio, where he will compete in the 2.4mR class within a few days, and the president of the naval regatta commission of the Marin Military Naval School, Vicente Rubio, gave the award to the class delegate, Luis de Mira, who picked him up and thanked him on behalf of Monte. On the stage of the gala also passed the Catalan shipowner, Rafael Carbonell, who received from the hands of the mayor of Baiona, Ángel Rodal, and on behalf of all his crew, the prize for the best ship, the Rats on Fire, winner of seven Trofeos Conde Godó and four Copas del Rey, as well as several Spanish and World championships. The Vice President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, was in charge of delivering the National Vela Teras Guda Award to the best patron, who was awarded in Rayco Tabares. The lanzaroteño, only 32 years old, wrote in 2016 his name in the history of the sailing in Spain by having won his third world championship of the J80 class.
Abanca and Marca were the two distinguished companies of the night. The Galician bank received the award for the best sponsor of the year for its commitment to the base sailing, through its support to many sailing schools, clubs and organizations related to nautical activity. The commercial network director of ABANCA, Gabriel González, collected the prize from the hand of the xeral secretary for or sport of the Xunta de Galicia, José Ramón Lete.
The sports communication group Marca, leader of the sports press in Spain, took the Mariano Aguado Communication Prize, which was collected by the deputy director of the newspaper, Gerardo Riquelme. This year's National Terra Guda Sailing Awards have wanted to recognize the work of the header of Editorial Unit to bring the competitions and the whole current of the sailing to its more than two million three hundred thousand readers. All the winners received as a trophy a reproduction of the signal mast of Mount Real Club de Yates, which bears the name of the organization's president for more than forty years, Don Rafael Olmedo Limeses, who died last 2015 at the age of 99. At the end of the National Sailing Awards gala, sponsored another year by Bodegas Terras Guda, and after a marine dinner on Mount Real, the attendees were able to enjoy a party with fireworks.
