The technology 3Di Race indicated for ships from 20 to 40 feet is available in black and gold (North Sails)

The technology patented 3Di by North Sails has transformed the navigation of races, ocean and superyachts over the last ten years. With the launch of the new 3Di Race, North Sails has developed a product that will add value to the competing regatists around the world. 3Di Race provides ships of race and cruise-race with length between 20 and 40 feet the opportunity to improve their results and the durability of their candles with a patented product, of molded composite and built to measure. According to Ken Read, President of North Sails:"The 3Di RACE has been developed for ships with length between 20 and 40 feet, taking advantage of the technology that has driven our heroes to victory at the highest levels of sport. The RACE uses our acclaimed 3Di technology, tested by the world's most competitive sports programs, and translates it into an ideal solution for daily competition. Tested performance, durability and value, in a single candle".

The 3Di was originally developed during the America's Cup of 2007, and adopted widely at the highest levels of the sailing competition, including IMOCA, ocean multicascs and Maxis. The 3Di Race is aimed at club regatists currently sailing with panel candles or membrane laminates, of limited durability. Deslamination is impossible with the new 3Di Race. The 3Di RACE enjoys a wider wind range than conventional membrane sails, offering a significant return on investment and the possibility of having a smaller and more efficient sails inventory. The composition and weight of the composite material are unique to North Sails, and provide a high form stability (like a wing), combined with softness, ease of reading and lightness of handling.
