Astandoa 100 years of navigation
Its beginnings in the world of nautical life begin in 1916, when in a small carpentry of Portugalete the brothers Jesus and José Astondoa Martínez begin to build boats of oars and trainers. After a logical pause for the Spanish Civil War they decide to take separate paths, focusing the efforts of Jesus Astondoa in the construction of fishing and recreational ships. It will be in 1944 when his son Jesus Astondoa Santamaría joined the family business, going shortly after to take over the shipyard. Its good work on the riverside carpentry, as well as the quality of the finishes on the Astandoa boats, make the shipyard of national fame worthy. Once installed on the Epiline coast, it is their children, the third generation, who join the shipyards. It is in the early 1980s that Astondoa leaves the production of wood and begins to produce ships with polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass. This progress in production techniques, together with successful design models, are enshrined as a reference yard at European level. Their presence at international fairs, as well as various awards recognizing their quality, drive an industrial development that has come to this day. Embargations such as the GLX range, today more than 30 years old, remain a design reference where time does not make a mistake. In 2006, with more than 500 employees, the Astondoa group has the widest range of ships on the market manufactured under a single brand. From open 40-foot boats through more than 120-foot yachts built in polyester resin reinforced with glass fiber and reaching megayates up to 45 meters in length, made of steel cascso and aluminium superstructures. Over these 100 years, Amondoa has built more than 3000 boats.
