SM Security Tips (1): Do we carry the documentation?
Before leaving, check that you have on board all the necessary documentation. It may be required at any time by the authorities, both in port and during navigation (Civil Guard Maritime Service). For the purposes of identification, the registration (folio) and the name of the vessel painted on the hull must be read without difficulty.
On board you must carry
- Certificate of Spanish Registration / Navigation Permission.
- Certificate of navigability in force which ensures that it has passed the Technical Inspection of Ships (ITB) in a cooperating inspection entity (Royal Decree 1434 / 1999). The authorized list of partners is available on the website of the Ministry of Development.
- If applicable, plate on the CE Marking helmet (Royal Decree 2127 / 2004), with declaration of conformity and manual of the owner of the vessel and the engine
- Justifying the payment of the compulsory liability insurance premium.
- Official title of the master of the vessel, not expired and adjusted to the type and area of navigation (Order of the Ministry of Development 300 / 2007). See the regulatory section.
- Personal documentation of crew members.
- Fiscal documentation (*).
Remember that
- The maritime authority may sanction it if it does not have any of these documents or does not have the appropriate titling for the area and type of vessel.
- As a general rule, insurance companies shall refuse to cover the damage and compensation resulting from an accident if, at the time of the accident, the owner of the vessel lacked the appropriate qualification or a mandatory document. The same problem may arise when you ask the insurance to be compensated for the costs of a trailer.
(*) The Maritime Service of the Civil Guard may request tax documentation, such as the proof of having paid VAT (Attention on second-hand vessels) or the Enrolment Tax (Tax on certain means of transport).
