If in the Galician Rías Baixas in the southern area such as the Massó were representative of the "Catalan promoter" in the 18th and 19th centuries and even in the early last century, in the "Rías" in the northern case of the Muros and Noia, families such as the Vieta installed from the Mediterranean, first and posterioment salting factories.
The "Joaquín Vieta," since its construction has remained linked to the Ria de Muros e Noia, with an uninterfered activity in the economy that most characterizes this territory, through its passage through different shipowners and different uses. In its historical trajectory it has served the traditional salazon factories, it also worked as a merchant ship, which caused it to maintain relations with other ports of the peninsula, passed by boat bateero and by batea even, being later adapted for ship school and ship museum for cultural tourism activities, as we know today for the social enjoyment of this jewel of the traditional nautical.
Built in the shipyards of O Freixo, Outes (A Coruña), in 1916, by order of Joaquín Vieta Ros, which would name the ship, theJoaquín Vietabegins a hard line that would take you to sail wrapped in thebrétemaof the Great European War, the Spanish Civil and the Second World War, always bearing the same name that was corresponding to the accredited Salazonera firm of the Vieta family, located in Muros, making thecareer of Vigoand carrying meats and products of the region, and returning with barrels of wine for theNoia dances, construction equipment, etc. When the demand for freight declines, theJoaquín Vietais sold to Teonila Pérez (from the family Barcia, from Noia) who keeps the name, dedicating it to cabotage, and incorporating a 24-horse engine. Over time he will lose one of his sticks as he grows in length to reach 17, 25 meters, his engine being set off in 1959 and the Gray will be installed by Pedra Sartaña.
In May 2004, it is confirmed that the Joaquín Vieta will be turned into firewood, organizing itself immediately a kind of plot to rescue it. From Noia he left an expedition to Muros, where the ship was taken, which still had its working gear on board... Thus the rescue of an entire symbol of marine culture began. On 21 September 2007, the "rescue operation" was set up, forming a crew of fortune that would constitute the current"Joaquín Vieta Association..."After an intense dedication of this that would be his new crew, the Joaquín Vieta enters again through the Port of Noia, a last great honor for the missing Muelle del Marqués, which had been for centuries Port of Santiago de Compostela. Great was the emotion for old and young people, admiring a whole challenge to the history of this ship that had always been part of its historical memory. An old sailor from Joaquin Vieta, at his age of 70, who was on this one who was his first boat with 16, tells us how he cried when he saw him come in again for Noia.
In the restoration of the "Joaquín Vieta" the traditional construction systems have been respected, incorporating essential elements in terms of safety and comfort:
The recite hull built of oak and pine wood has been equipped with a combined mechanics that allows both sailing and motor, providing speed, reliability and manoeuvre in navigation.
- The command post is equipped with modern electronic systems to ensure safety in navigation.
- The bridge has been significantly expanded from the original to accommodate a spacious kitchen with outside bar and a toilet with shower. But the greatest transformation with respect to the original design is the construction of a large cabin that, because of its size and endowment, allows to combine activities on deck and inside, being able to adapt to weather conditions or to the combination of a wide variety of activities during the journey such as activities, meetings, exhibitions, dining room and even bedroom.
