The regatists María Bover (RCN Palma) and Clara Llabrés (CN S'Arenal) have today proclaimed themselves in San Remo (Italy) absolute female world champions of class 420. This is the best result obtained by both athletes throughout their career and in the case of Maria Bover it is added to the world bronze medal he won in 2013 in Optimist. The canaries Maria and Pilar Caba (RCNGC) finished fourth.

In the sub- 17 category, the Catalan Eduard Ferrer and Carlos de Maqua also took the silver medal, ending just behind the champions, the Greeks Telis Athanasopoulos and Yogo Dimitris Tassios, who took the gold.

The Mallorcan crew had everything to face to rise with the world crown, when they arrived leader and with nine points of advantage to the final day. But weather conditions were not conducive to them. After a week of moderate winds, the San Remo race field today recorded 25 knots of medium intensity, which caused great movements in the general classification.

Maria and Clara, the current 420 Spanish champions, held up the type and were able to remain second-ranked at the end of the championship, in which they completed a partial of 7, 2, 12, 1, 1, 6, 1, 2, 6, 1, 15 and 18 (discounted).

RCNP President Javier Sanz also wanted to congratulate the world's subchampions. "We've been following the race aboard, it's been very exciting. For the club there is no greater satisfaction than to see recognized the work we do and the sacrifice of the athletes, who match the high level competition with the studies. I've been seeing Maria Bover since she started at Optimist. Today she is one of our world ambassadors," Sanz said.

The Italian Francesca Russo Cirillo and Alice Linussi have been the women's champions, while the third has been the crew formed by Maria Vittoria Marchesini and Cecilia Fede of the same country. In the male category, the Portuguese Diogo and Pedro Costa have won. And in Sub '17 the Greeks Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and Dimitris Tassios have won.

In the Open category, the brothers Enrique and Pablo Luján ended up in fourth place as the best Spanish crew.

The remaining Spanish remained in the following positions, in the female category Lala Akrich / Catalina Homar (8), Carlota Hernández / Ana Carrasco (30), Paula Echo / Margarita Alba (34), Clara Llabrés / Carmen Pieras (59), Anna Gimeno Irene Casañe (70). In Open Luis Hernández / Luis Bugallo (7), Carlos / Ignacio Balaguer (9), Marc Lladó / Antoni Massanet (10), Santiago / Luis Mas (18), Elias Aretz / Pablo García (19), Albert Torres / Javier González (21).
