Spain has been classified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in nine of the ten Olympic sailing classes, all but the Finn. The Laser Radial class has been the last to get the classification, which is not yet defined the regatists that will represent Spain and that will be decided during the Kieler Woche, race to be held from 22 to 26 June in Germany. A total of 270 regatists from 62 countries will participate, apart from Brazil as host nation, only France, Britain and the United States have classified all classes, ten. They follow you with nine Spain, Australia, Argentina, Canada and Italy.

The Spanish Olympic Vela Team, which runs Toni Ripoll, presents itself to the great Olympic event of Rio 2016 as the sport that has given Spain the most medals in all history, a total of 19 medals, 13 of them gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze, and 25 diplomas. The regatists and classes classified are RS: X Feminino, Marina Pémau; RS: X Male, Ivan Pastor; Laser Standard, Joaquin Blanco; 470 Feminine, Bàrbara Cornudella and Sara López; 470 Male, Jordi Xammar and Joan Herp; 49er, Diego Botín and Iago López Marra; FX, Támara Echegoyen and Berta Betanzos and Nacra 17, Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco.
