It is one of the debuts in the Spanish Olympic Sailing Team, although the name of Joaquín Blanco is a classic in the Olympic panorama. He has the candle in his genes, on both sides of his family, by Blanco his grandfather was already one of the leading regatists in Gran Canaria and his father Joaquín, the Olympic Finn world champion and fourth ranked in the Olympic Games of Los Angeles 84 '. On the Albalat side his grandfather was one of the founders of the CV Palamós and his uncle Manel, world champion of 470 with Toño Gorostegui.

Joaquín Blanco began by highlighting from the Optimist class, where he already achieved great results as a European gold and bronze, showing that he would follow the saga of great regatists. From this he made the leap to the Laser class, in which he has been sailing almost a decade, in which he has been world champion in 4.7 and European in Radio.

After completing the studies he decided to focus on looking for the Olympic Square, which he has now achieved, being these first Games. After obtaining the qualification he has trained with the world champion and Europe sub- 21 Joel Rodríguez and his coach Oliver Bravo de Laguna.
