The Mil Milas Championship of Spain is finished, the winner of the RCN of Valencia Granell of Agustín Granell and Kiko Moret in category A2, and in the mode of Full Tripulation of the Majorcan crew of the Seven'sToo of Pepe Cernuda. Highlight the brand set in real time by the RCN Valencia, Brujo, the first to reach the finish line, biting the record of the test, setting the 1000 Mile in 8 days 1 hour, 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

On July 24, at 13 hours 42 minutes 23 seconds first entered the finish line the A2 Brujo de Alberto de Castro and Jose Luis Francés, after walking the 1000 Mediterranean miles. An hour later, at 14: 58: 03 the boat entered A2 Granell of Agustín Granell and Kiko Moret. With this crone the sailboat Granell proclaimed himself the absolute winner of the test.

The duel between the two Valencian vessels has been the most outstanding note of this transMediterranean test. The rivalry between the two crews was already reflected in the first section of the race, with the flying goal in the passage buoy of Ciutadella, where Granell was imposed on this section, winning the CN Ciutadella trophy.

Throughout the test the Witch managed to overcome the time difference, going as a virtual test leader until the return to Menorca, but the route between Menorca and the goal in Port Olimpic, its advantage was neutralized by Granell, who managed to minimize the time of difference and give it the final victory.

A glow in the middle of the Balear channel was the cause of this circumstance, in which the Witch was caught by the night calms of the Catalan coast, while Granell took advantage of the wind bursts of the tramontana that ventilated the eastern part of the channel. As he was moving towards the Catalan coast he took the advantage of the Witch, and in this decisive stretch, Granell was able to take better advantage of the sea thermal winds (the well-known Garby) that made him move fast towards the goal, without Brujo having the possibility to take more advantage of it, as he was already close to the goal.

In this way Agustín Granell and Kiko Moret were proclaimed champions of the 2016 edition of the Thousand Mile. When they arrived, they said that 'we value very positively the fact that we have won this race, which we consider one of the toughest in the international race calendar', and they said they have had very remarkable rivals. Kiko Moret, told us that he has loved to be able to renegotiate in this test, that he already did in the 1980s, and that he is excited to have won it again, after more than 30 years.

For their part, the Witch crew have also stated that they are very satisfied 'Pity of the last stretch, but the races are so'. They were happy to have repeated to be the first in real time, as they did last year and to have set the new test record, in 8 days, 1 hour, 42 minutes and 23 seconds. For its part, the boat A2 Sushi Bar by Daniel Martín and Bartolomé Pascual, from the RC Marítim of Barcelona, was in third position of the classification of this group, entering at 12: 15 minutes on July 25

To stress that in the crew category complete the Seven's Too of the mallorquin Pepe Cernuda has been proclaimed winner in this category, thanks to the speed it took in the last stretch of the test, between Ciutadella and Port Olimic, where it covered the 116 miles that separate both points in just 20 hours of navigation, recovering time to its rival in group, the Somni de Enric Picanyol, which was caught by the morning crunches, when it reached the Catalan coast at night. As the Mallorcan navigator Pepe Cernuda told us: 'We have been lucky enough not to run into the terrible morning crouches that occur on the peninsular coast, from dawn to the sea thermal, which you know here as the garby', which was very happy to have managed to finish the race, which he considers' is one of the hardest that I have ever done as a navigator '.

Brujo and Granell have completed the Mil Milas race, Spain's high-rise navigation championship. This morning, at 1 p.m. 42 minutes 23 seconds morning the A2 Brujo de Alberto de Castro and Jose Luis Francés entered, after going through the 1000 Mediterranean miles along these seven days. An hour later, at 14: 58: 03 the boat entered A2 Granell of Agustín Granell and Kiko Moret. This chrono proclaimed itself a virtual winner of the race, which will be confirmed once the times of compensation are reached. With this hour and 10 minutes of difference, the Granell sailboat is first placed in the final classification in compensated time, by better defending its rating and proclaiming itself the absolute winner of the test.

Throughout the test the Witch managed to overcome the time difference, going as a virtual leader of the test until the return to Menorca, but the route between Menorca and the goal in Port Olimpic, its advantage has been neutralized by Granell, who has managed to minimize the time of difference and give it the final victory.

A glow in the middle of the Balear channel has been the cause of this circumstance, which has damaged the Witch, which was caught by the night calms of the Catalan coast, while Granel, more late, still took advantage of the tramontana wind bursts that ventilated the eastern part of the channel. As he went forward he took the advantage of the Witch, and in this decisive stretch, Granell took a further north course than he chose for his rival, and he was able to take better advantage of the sea thermal winds (the well-known Garby) that made him move fast towards the goal, without having the possibility to take more advantage of it, as he was already close to the goal.

In this way Granell is proclaimed champion of the 2016 edition of the Thousand Mile. Agustín and Kiko, on their arrival, stated that 'we value very positively the fact that we have won this race, that we consider it one of the toughest that are disputed in the calendar of high races at the international level', and they point out that we have had very remarkable rivals. They were still very happy to have repeated being the first in real time, as they did last year and to have set the new test record, in less than 8 days.

The race goes on. In the middle of the Balear channel are in a frec to frec the full crew ship Somni de Enric Picanyol and the A2 Sushi Bar, by Daniel Martin and Bartolomé Pascual. They are in an elbow to elbow, a few miles between them, and tomorrow they are expected at the goal of arrival. Seven'sToo of Pepe Cernuda has overtaken the island of Menorca and is channeling the goal in open sea towards Port Olímpic.

Day 6 (21 / 07 / 2016) - The calms in the waters of Sardinia are 'killing' the fleet of the Thousand Mile

Image of the Tracking of the Mil Milas Regata with the fleet off the east coast of Sardinia.

The worst thing that can happen to a sailing boat is the lack of wind. That fatality is living the fleet of the Thousand Mile race. Since they will turn their way north, Cape Carbonara, in the south-east of Sardinia, the wind shines by its absence. A desperate calm, which makes progress towards the North very hard. This causes the fleet to go slowly, and it is almost standing off the Tyrrhenian coast for two days.

Taking advantage, occasionally, of the slack, which is sporadically generated, they have been able to move very slow, to go up the Gulf Orosei, between Cape Belavista and that of Comino.

Today's day has also been very hard, with almost zero winds that have made it difficult to manage navigation and have tested the nerves of the regatists. They are about 60 miles from the entrance to Boniface, and it is expected that by the next few hours the wind will be stowed by the sailors and will drive them back.

Witch is kept in the head of the fleet. After him a group of Granell, Suhsi Bar and Talasur, all in A2 navigation. They are all grouped, a few miles away between them. Their marking is continuous. All at the Witch hunt that's about 12 miles north. The accordion effect, which produces all glow, can group this group with the leader. Behind them they sail the two sailing boats with full crew, the Somni, which has already returned Belavista and the Seven's Too that advances methodically, without losing the wake of its competitors.

Day 4 (19 / 07 / 2016) - The 'Witch' is the first to pass through the control of the Thousand Mile located south of Sardinia

Tracking de la flota pasando al sur de la isla de Cerdeña.

Tracking of the fleet passing south of the island of Sardinia.

The Swan 42 of the RCN of Valencia Brujo, with Alberto de Castro and Jose Luis Francés have been the first to cross through the control of the South of Sardinia, the passage of Sulces, between the island of Vacca and the island of Toro. It was about 8: 00 this morning. They sailed at a good pace until they reached the coastal influence of Sardinia, in full calm and current against, pursued by their rival in this race, the Valencians also of the RCN of Valencia, of the Granell sailboat, a First 40.7 with Agustín Granell and Kiko Moret.

For both crews, these waters are not new to them. Alberto and José Luis, is their second step through this channel that separates the two southern sardous islets, and the second time they pass as leaders in this section of the Mil Milas race. Last year they were also the first to cross the control pass, and from here, until they reached the finish line at Port Olímpic in Barcelona, they did not let anyone shadow their bow. They were the winners of the last edition and their goal this year is to repeat triumph.

They won't have it easy. The Granell crew, with Agustín and Kiko Moret, also know these waters well. Not in vain Kiko Moret was the winner of the Thousand Mile race in 1985. They know the coast, and both want to reverse the triumph in this mythical race. The marking, along the 'grand sardous coast' (Sardinia, land of giants!) will be exciting in the coming days. They know - for having sailed it - of the complex meteum of this coast, full of coves, ravines, islands, which force a very concentrated and attentive navigation.

After passing through the Sulcis channel, the fleet is already preparing in carousel to board Sardinia. At the time of this chronicle, there is a desperate glow in the area. The feared accordion effect, is a ghost that plans among the leaders, Behind the Witch and Granell is the sailing boat with full crew Somni, the Grand Soleil of Enric Picanyol, the CN Arenys de Mar and the A2 Shusi Bar, the Figaro II of the Maritime of Barcelona by Daniel Martin and Bartolomé Pascual.

In the south, the Archambault 40 Talasur of Urko Longas and Julio Bernabeau of the CN Portoman, in A2 and the Seven's Too, the Azuree 33 of Pepe Cernuda, with full crew, come to the south. They move slowly towards the NE, but when they reach the socaire of the great island of Sardinia, they will find the glow that are suffering those who are in the head of the race.

The crew of The Best Skipper has announced that they have withdrawn from the competition and entered the port of Mahon, after their passage through the Porter cove.

Day 3 (18 / 07 / 2016) - The Mil Milas Regata leaves behind the ballistic archipelago

2016-07-18jpg

The fleet of the Mil Milas regatta is sailing, curling to rabid, along the western sector of the sea of Sardinia, looking with its long borders, the entrance to the south of the sardine island.

Rough night sailing, face wind. The intensity of the wind between 12 and 16 knots, which by taking them face, multiplies their strength. In a radius of about 50 miles round on the sea surface, the fleet is scattered, sailing to the bolina, and covering long borns, between dyed and 'quartellar', as the time may be, and launched to the approximation of the islets of the Vaca and the Toro, in the south of Sardinia, the passing area of the fleet. A journey that promises to be hard, and will test the crews and ships in this Spanish High Navigation Championship.

After two days of intense navigation, the race enters its first decisive moment: to cross the 220 miles that separate Menorca from southern Sardinia. The ships, thanks to the powerful wind, are already halfway. Billing through this part of the Mediterranean, the A2 Brujo is located 110 miles directly to the control point of southern Sardinia (Vacca / Toro), but with the embroidery that you will have to perform, this theoretical journey, in practice, will be folded with safety. He's sailing with 6-kt averages, with the sea against it. Like the rest of the fleet.

The sailing boat in A2, Granell is 127 miles directly to the control pass. It also goes at an average rate of 6 knots, marking its rival that is about 20 miles from its bow.

The A2 Talasur is located about 135 miles from the control of Vacca. It is the sailboat in the southernmost latitude. You have to turn soon, if you don't want to lose too much of the loxodromic, far away, for all, by the continuous bordos.

The complete crew, Sommi, is moving fast and is 145 miles from the sart control, such as the A2 Sushi Bar, which is the sailboat located north on this extensive field of navigation where the fleet of the Thousand Mile is located. The Seven's Too, a full crew, is the sailboat that is momentarily the most late in the sart-pass control area, about 160 miles directly.

For its part, report that The Best Skipper has informed the Regata Committee, which has entered the Porter cove in South Menorca, for technical reasons.
Day 2 (17 / 07 / 2016) - The Mil Milas Regata is already sailing to Sardinia

Aproximación de la flota al paso por la isla de Menorca tras salir del Port Olímpic de Barcelona.

Approaching the fleet to the passage of the island of Menorca after leaving the Port Olímpic of Barcelona.

There is a spectacular duel between the Valencian sailboats Brujo de Alberto de Castro and Jose Luis Francés, winners last year of a thousand-mile race, the Spanish High Navigation Championship and the Granell sailboat, of Agustín Granell and Francisco Moret, both of which are in category A2.

At 12: 59: 47 today, 25 hours after the departure of the race, the Granell first crossed, in real time, the buoy passage of Ciutadella, followed by the Wizard, just three minutes away. The winner in compensated time, in this 116-mile stretch between Port Olimpic of Barcelona and Ciutadella will be the winner of the precious Trophy Club Nàutic Ciutadella.

The last part of this journey has been an exciting frec à frec starring both ships and an NE wind, which has given the thrill to this struggle of the two ships that were willing to be the winners of the buoy passage of Ciutadella. Both have been exchanging leadership along this journey, until in the end the boat with Agustín Granell and Francisco Moret has been the first to reach the line in real time.

The trip Port Olympic- Ciutadella
After the departure of the race yesterday at 12 noon of the Port Olímpic of Barcelona, much of the fleet took direction 140º, direct direction towards Ciudadela, except the boat A2 Sushi Bar, the Figaro II of Daniel Martin and Bartolomé Pascual who opted for a different strategy, pointing towards 100º, and then descending towards the loxodromic, in the face of the forecast winds of the NE in the middle of the Balear channel.

The majority group advanced quite fast and united, following parallel to the loxodromic (Brujo, Granell, Seven's Too, Talasur, The Best Skipper, Sommi), while the thermal wind of the SW on the Catalan coast lasted, whose influence was lost about 20 miles from the coast. This group of sailboats remained compact until they reached the 41º06 'N / 02º31' E coordinate, where the boats, due to the wind's role to the north, sought strategies to overcome this drop in momentum.

The entry of a soft tramontana, of no more than 5 knots of pressure, changed the tactics. Some chose to keep the SE course they were carrying, such as the A2 Brujo and the Granell, but most decided to go further south, moving away from the most direct route, and slowly moving forward, with the loose wind of North. So did The Best Skipper, Sommi, Seven'sToo, all of them integrated into the category Full Triulation and the A2 Talasur. The A2 Sushi Bar, which was currently sailing in a further north latitude, due to its departure at the beginning of the race, which chose to take E direction, also turned south, in this area, to recover a higher latitude and close to the bulk of the fleet.

Difficult approach to Menorca

At dawn, today, with a low north wind of no more than 5 knots, the fleet was already grouped about 30 miles from the NW coast of Menorca, hoping to overcome the first glow of the test.

The accordion effect occurred early in the morning. The first to successfully leave this post-night encalmdaa area have been the two ships manned in A2, the Witch and the Granell, which were gradually distancing themselves from the rest of the fleet, taking advantage of an incipient wind of the NE.

Also the Sushi Bar, in A2, was closer to the loxodromic. In the calm zone, the Seven's Too, in the category of Full Crew, has tried to move away from its group rivals, the Best Skipper and the Sommi, while the A2 Talasur has been recovering miles in this group where all the sailing boats with Full Crew were found.

The approach to Menorca, from noon has been encouraged, thanks to a gentle rise of the wind, of component NE, that has made progress from close to the fleet to overcome the buoy of Ciutadella and prepare for the great crossing by the sea of Sardinia.
