The acting Minister of Defence, Pedro Morenés, has presided at the Marin Military Naval School (Pontevedra), the delivery of Reales Despachos to the 88 new Navy officers and the flag swearing of the first-year students. On his arrival at the Naval School, Pedro Morenés has been received by the Admiral Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral General Jaime Muñoz@-@ Delgado and by the Commander Director, ship captain José María Núñez Torrente; after the honors of ordenance, the minister has reviewed the Battalion of Alumnos. The ceremony began with the Act of Tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain, followed by the Flag's swearing of the 69 first-year candidates of the General Corps and the Marine Infantry. The new officers received their offices, on this occasion they have received their offices 60 Ensign of Navy General Corps, 10 Ensign of Navy Infantry, 8 Ensign of Navy Corps of Engineers, 4 Ensign of Navy Technical Scale of the Corps of Engineers and 6 complement officers belonging to the General Corps, Marine Infantry, Engineers, and Intensification. Following the address of the chief commander of the Naval School and the interpretation of the Navy anthem, the event ended with the traditional parade of the student battalion. The event was also attended by the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, the acting Minister of Development, Ana Pastor, the government delegate in Galicia, and the mayors of Pontevedra, and Marín, among other civil and military authorities.
The Military Naval School has been the only training centre for Navy officers since 1717. It is therefore a higher education institution, and it provides up to 19 different curricula depending on the military framework and the civil or military provenance of the students. However, these curricula respond to two forms of access. The first, called access without qualification, is exclusive to the General Corps and Marine Infantry and allows access to naval and military formation directly, if the cut is exceeded in the University Access Test (PAU) note and a certain level of English and psychophysical aptitude is credited. The training in this access has a duration of five academic courses and at the end of it the students receive two degrees: one degree in mechanical engineering (Bologna), provided at the University Defense Centre (located at the School itself and attached to the University of Vigo), and one second in the Official, both with a teaching burden of 240 ECTS (European credits). The second is access with degree, which allows access to all bodies of the Navy, including Intensification and Engineers, to graduates or graduates of certain university degrees. Its duration ranges from one to two years.
