The 35 Cup of King Mapfre crown to his new kings
The final day of the 35 Copa del Rey Mapfre has offered good conditions in the bay of Palma, allowing the holding of the tests planned in all classes. The eight champions will receive their King's Cup from S.M. King Philip VI, who today competed on board the "Aifos." The Mapfre King's Cup was closed with intense battles for the title in the eight classes and the establishment of several historical milestones: first edition with participation of catamarans, first edition with four race areas, and the establishment of three records: eight absolute titles for a team, four consecutive titles, and nine wins for a pattern. The champions of the 35 Mapfre King's Cup are the Spanish "Maserati" (BMW ORC 1), "Movistar" (BMW ORC 2), "Red Eléctrica de España" (Air Europa X-35) and "Marbella Team" (Herbalife J80), the American "Bella Mente" (Montblanc Maxi 72), the Italian "Azzurra" (Singular Kitchen IRC 1), the French "Norauto" (GC32), and the German "Earlybird" (MRW Swan 45).
Eight champions
The eight classes offered a show throughout the week in Palma Bay. They were five days of competition and one of rest forced by the whims of the wind, an exception that was not remembered for more than ten years. Today, the fleet fired in great conditions, with winds of 9-14 knots that allowed to meet the program of the day: two barlovent / sotavent tests in all classes except the GC32, which contested six.
In class BMW ORC 1 the title was the DK46 "Maserati" of Alvaro Irila. The ship patrolled by Fernando León was now in second position, at a point of the leader "Magic Mystery Tour," but he was able to take advantage of the day by completing two good sleeves (2-3), which together with the discreet performance of the British team (9-6), allowed him to crown himself champion. Second would be the best team of the last day, the "Pez de Abril" by José María Meseguer (3-1), at 6.5 points from the winner and half point ahead of Edward Leask's "Magic Mystery Tour."
In BMW ORC 2, the "Movistar" managed to defend its title 2015 with a strong victory that marked three milestones in the history of La Copa: eighth title for the Galician team, fourth consecutive and ninth for its patron Pedro Campos, an absolute record in the 35 editions of the King's Cup. The ship of the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo won five of the nine trials disputed, and ended the week with a margin of nine points on its immediate pursuit. The podium was completed by José Ballester's "Fyord-Maverta" and Alexandre Laplaza's "L'Immens."
In Montblanc Maxi 72, the "Bella Minte" achieved a worked title with an almost perfect final day (2-1). The American ship Hap Fauth held an intense duel for the triumph with the "Proteus" of his compatriot George Sakellaris throughout the week. The champion realized his victory in the last two sleeves, which he took advantage of to fit three decisive points to his rival. Third was the "Momo" of the German Dieter Schön.
In Singular Kitchen IRC 1, the victory was the "Azzurra" of Alberto Roemmers. The Italian TP52 signed the best series of the whole class, with five wins in nine tests and a sixth as the worst result, precisely that of the last championship test. The battle for the second position was resolved in favor of the "Alegre" of Andrés Soriano by half point on the "Paprec Recyclage" of Estephane Neve.
In GC32, the "Norcar" patronized by Adam Minoprio became the first catamaran to win the King's Cup. The French team was the most regular of the only class that does not apply discards. Today he went out into the water tied to points with the Swiss "Armin Strom Sailing Team," but he managed better the pressure to take the absolute triumph. Third was the "Tilt Team" by Arnaud Psarofaghis, who, despite signing six partial wins, ran out of options as he suffered a black flag in the fifth manga of the championship. The "Malizia" of Pierre Casiraghi ended in fourth position, but the member of the Royal House of Monaco says goodbye to his first race in Palma getting the prize for the best shipowner / timonel.
MRW champion Swan 45 was literally decided on the last sleeve. The final day began with a tight three-way battle between "Earlybird," "Eshec" and "Elena Nova," the clearly stronger teams of the monotype fleet, which faced the final assault literally in a fist. The two contested tests cleared the unknownite: the "Earlybird" of the German Hendrik Brandis was set up champion, taking a 1.5-point drive to the "Estec" of the Dutch Rientz Willem Bol and 2.5 to the "Elena Nova" of the German also Christian Plump.
The title in the class Air Europa X-35 was the "Red Eléctrica de España," also the champion in 2015. The ship armed and patronized by Javier Sanz signed the best card between the fleet, giving only three points throughout the week and scoring seven wins of ten possible. Second was the "Spirit of Nerina" of Italian Paolo Sena (13 points), and third was the "Group Seres" of Malagueño Javier Banderas (15 points).
The title of Herbalife J80 was for the "Team Marbella" of Pepequín Orbaneja. The Andalusian ship defended the lead since the second day, and although it was fired with a nine in the last sleeve, it was the best in the class, with six wins in ten tests. Second was the 2015 champion, the "ONO Tressis M & G" by Daniel de la Pedraja, eight points, followed by the "HM-Hotels" by Javier Chacartegui, who ascended to the podium in extremis by winning the last sleeve.

The strong wind leaves blank the penultimate day of the Mapfre King's Cup (06 / 08 / 2016)
Today it has not been possible to haggle in the bay of Palma. A wind too strong and unstable forced the fleet to remain on the ground. Something unpublished since 2004. S.M. King Don Felipe VI visited the Royal Nautical Club of Palma, and is expected to compete on board the "Aifos." The eight classes face the last day with exciting battles for the title.
Palma woke up this morning under the influence of a strong north-component wind that forced the organization of King MAPHRE's 35 Cup to keep the fleet on the ground. The forecast indicated that the conditions would improve as the hours progressed, but the information from the race field indicated too much intensity: 25-kt averages, with rachas above 30. At 16: 00, the Regatas Committee decided to cancel the day, which was not the case since the 2004 edition. Everything will be decided tomorrow, sixth and last day of competition.
The provisional leaders are: "Bella Minte" in Montblanc Maxi 72, "Azzurra" in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, "Norauto" in GC32, "Maserati" in BMW ORC 1, "Movistar" in BMW ORC 2, "Earlybird" in MRW Swan 45, "Eléctrica de España" in Air Europa X-35 and "Marbella Team" in Herbalife J80.
Everything to decide
The provisional classification reveals open battles on all fronts. One class shows a tie in the head, another one a half point and two a point.
The first discards come into play in the Mapfre King's Cup (04 / 08 / 2016)
The fourth day of competition provided a visible combination of wind and wave in the Palma race field, which allowed the program to be completed in all classes but reduced that of the GC32 catamarans to one of the six sleeves planned. Four classes show differences of less than two points between the first two classified. It's two days away, and everything's about to be decided.
Palma's race field has again shown its best face today. The wind started blowing around the 17-18 knots, the greatest intensity of the week, and accompanied by a wave that brought an extra spectacularity to the competition, but that turned out too much for the GC32. The flying catamarans were the only ones who failed to complete their programme of the day. The entire fleet competed in barlovento-sotavento format with the exception of BMW ORC 1 and BMW ORC 2, which carried out a coastal test of 21.78 miles.
The provisional leaders at the end of the fourth day are: "Bella Minte" in Montblanc Maxi 72, "Azzurra" in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, "Norauto" in GC32, "Magic Mystery Tour" in BMW ORC 1, "Movistar" in BMW ORC 2, "Earlybird" in MRW Swan 45, "Spanish Electric Network" in Air Europa X-35 and "Marbella Team" in Herbalife J80.
The provisional classification shows two ships tied to GC32's head points, two others separated by one point in BMW ORC 1 and Montblanc Maxi 72, and three ships in 1.5 points in MRW Swan 45. The battle for King MAPHRE's 35 Cup remains open. The Air Europa classes X-35, MRW Swan 45 and Herbalife J80, having completed eight sleeves, have already been applied a discard.

The show of the flying ships capitalizes the Copa del Rey Mapfre (04 / 08 / 2016)
The GC32 debut today opened a new chapter in the history of the MAPHRE King's Cup. And Palma Bay. The flying catamarans have joined the fleet and will provide an extra show to the race until Saturday. Today the equator of the competition program has been crossed, and the provisional leaders have received the Red Electric Link Awards.
The 35 Cup of King MAPHRE today has completed the first half of his competition program. This third day has brought the historic premiere of the GC32, the flying catamarans that starred in the first multihull competition in the regatta field of the bay of Palma. The legendary Embat wind was once again punctual, and today it came with wave.
The menu of the day had a coastal race for the Montblanc Maxi 72 and Singular Kitchen IRC 1 classes, and there are also barlovento- sotavento tests for the rest of the monocascos and up to six for the GC32. The catamarans decided to reduce the program to five tests for the increase in the waves in the bay as hours passed.
The provisional leaders at the end of the third day are: "Bella Minte" in Montblanc Maxi 72, "Azzurra" in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, "Armin Strom Sailing Team" in GC32, "Maserati" in BMW ORC 1, "Movistar" in BMW ORC 2, "Earlybird" in MRW Swan 45, "Red Eléctrica de España" in Air Europa X-35 and "Marbella Team" in Herbalife J80.

Perfect day on the second day of the Mapfre King's Cup (01 / 08 / 2016)
Today, the conditions that the participants of the MAPHRE King's Cup so much like have returned to Palma Bay: a smooth and stable thermal wind that allowed for punctual exits and meet the planned program. The seven classes contested the two barlotte-sotavento trials under the influence of the expected Embat.
The provisional leaders at the end of the second day are: "Bella Minte" in Montblanc Maxi 72, "Azzurra" in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, "Maserati" in BMW ORC 1, "Movistar" in BMW ORC 2, "Earlybird" in MRW Swan 45, "Red Eléctrica de España" in Air Europa X-35 and "Marbella Team" in Herbalife J80.
They take off the GC32.
Tomorrow will be a historic day for the MAPHRE King's Cup. The multicascos are incorporated into the competition for the first time since the creation of the event in 1982, causing with its arrival another unprecedented milestone: the assembly of the fourth area of races, something unpublished in the bay of Palma. The GC32 class debuts with an army of ten flying catamarans of seven nationalities, a guarantee of show that could already be intuited in the training days with impressive flown at stratospheric speeds. Among the participants is the monegasque "Malizia" armed and patronized by Pierre Casiraghi, who this morning focused the flashes of the social press upon his arrival at the RCNP. The GC32 debuts with an intense program of six tests per day until next Saturday.

Premiere with stands in the 35 Copa del Rey Mapfre

The approach suffered by the Adrián Hotels by the Coratge seen from the inside of the Tierfeño ship. Photo: Alvaro Cuadrado
The first day of competition of the MAPHRE King's Cup allowed the holding of the two tests scheduled in the seven classes called. The wind was slow to arrive, but it offered good conditions in the three areas of race distributed by the bay of Palma.
An approach and a break of stick have served as an appetizer to a 35 Copa del Rey Mapfre that had views of being quiet out. The Adrián Hotels in the BMW ORC 1 class suffered an approach in the first test of the day that ended up conditioning it for the rest of the day and the Russian Epropulsion in Herbalife J80 saw the stick go down in the second test of the day, so he had to withdraw. The competitiveness is great in the King's Cup and in such large fleets the ships rush up to the last metro in the exits and pass by buoy.
The premiere of the 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE called in the bay of Palma 116 ships of 19 nationalities divided into seven classes and with a program of two barlovento-sotavento type tests. Four teams went out to defend their 2015 titles and 12 released the new MRW Swan 45 class. The reliable wind of Palma towed at the beginning of the day. He started blowing gradient, and evolved to a thermal that remained the rest of the day, with intensities around the 15 knots. All were able to complete the planned programme.
The provisional leaders at the end of the first day are: "Bella Minte" in Montblanc Maxi 72, "Azzurra" in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, "GC Dr. Luis Senís" in BMW ORC 1, "Fyord - Maverta" in BMW ORC 2, "Earlybird" in MRW Swan 45, "Electric Network" in Air Europa X-35 and "ONO Tressis M & G" in Herbalife J80.

The official presentation serves to raise the curtain of the 35 Cup of King Mapfre
The Real Club Náutico de Palma has hosted today, Friday, the official presentation of the 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE, competition that this year returns to the bay of Palma de Mallorca from July 31 to August 6 with 1,500 regatists, 130 ships and 22 countries.
Javier Sanz was in charge of opening the event, thanking both MAPHRE and the other sponsors and collaborators for their involvement with the race, and that is that in the words of the RCNP president, "without them it would be impossible to face this event. In addition to your financial contribution, I must highlight your involvement in the project and especially with your human team. I would also like to thank the institutional support of the City Council of Palma, the Govern Balear, the Harbour Authority of the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Federation of Vela," said Sanz, adding: "This year BMW is consolidated as an official car of this race and it is an honour for all of us to have the collaboration and support of this firm. Gaastra is also consolidated in her long history of sponsoring this race and we are very proud to have her collaboration and support. Finally, I would like to thank the other collaborators for their delivery at this event. Without them it would be impossible to address this 35 edition of the King's Cup MAPHRE."
In this new edition of the MAPHRE King's Cup, 1,500 regatists and 130 ships of 22 nationalities will be thrown into the water to fight for the title on one of the most expected dates of the season, to which this year the GC32 class is added to offer a whole show in Palma Bay. They all make up, according to Javier Sanz, "the most prestigious fleet of ships from the Mediterranean cruise. We are proud to have the best ships and sailors in the world, whose trust contributes to the prestige of our club."
Tomorrow, official start
The race program of the 35 Cup of King MAPHRE consists of six days of race in four race fields distributed by the bay of Palma. The official program begins tomorrow Saturday with the confirmation of inscriptions, which will be extended throughout the weekend, and will be on Monday day 1 when the first punctuable tests will begin from 13: 00 hours for the Singular classes Kitchen IRC 1, Montblanc Maxi 72, BMW ORC 1, BMW ORC2, Air Europa X-35, Herbalife J80 and MRW Swan 45.
On Tuesday they will debut the spectacular GC32 to complete a fleet of 130 ships of 22 nationalities that will fight for the final title. The competition will continue until the next Saturday day 6, when the identity of the winners of the 35 Cup of King MAPHRE will be known.
(28 / 07 / 2016) - The Swan 45 class will have its own category in the 35 Cup of King Mapfre
After several editions competing in the BMW ORC 1 category, the Swan 45 will have their own class in the 35 Cup of King MAPHRE. The MRW Swan 45 class will have a total of 12 ships of five nationalities that will be thrown into the water next Monday, August 1, to fight in real time to get one of the most eager titles of the season.
In 2009, the Swan 45 class competed for the last time, as its own class, in the MAPHRE King's Cup. Since then, this type of boat has been more than present in the meeting organized by the Real Club Nautico de Palma competing in the category BMW ORC1 from 2013 to 2015 and in RI between 2010 and 2012, achieving to be edition after edition at the top of the classification.
Now, the MRW Swan 45 fleet returns to Palma Bay as its own class to offer a whole show sailing side by side and in real time for one of the most expected titles of the season. In addition, the 35 Cup of King MAPHRE will be the third of the six tests that make up the Mediterranean circuit of the class, so there is no doubt that the competition will be very high in the field of races.
Ready for action
The 35 Cup of King MAPHRE is one of the key quotes of the Swan 45 calendar. Less than two months for the World Cup of the class to be held in Porto Cervo (Sardinia, Italy), the teams arrive to the bay of Palma ready to perform to the maximum in each and every test scheduled in the six days of race.
Among the pre-registered in the MRW category Swan 45 is the presence of the German ships Elenanova of Christian Plump and the Earlybird of Hendrik Brandis, first and second respectively in the Gaastra PalmaVela - first quote of the season - and second and third in the last edition of the King MAPHRE Cup.
Nor will the Dutch Motions - third in the general of the circuit in 2012 - be missing with Lennard Van Oeveren to the cane and the Italian Ange Transparent II by Andrea Zaoli, fourth in the recent Giraglia Rolex Cup of Saint Tropez.
Axelle S, Eala of Rhu, Ethec, Gaastra, K-Force, Tala, Thetis and Ulika complete the list of pre-registered.
The MRW Swan 45 class will hear next Monday, August 1, the warning signal for the first of the 12 scheduled tests and will not be until Saturday, day 6, when the winner of the 35 Cup of King MAPHRE in that category will be known.
(25 / 07 / 2016) _
In the absence of exactly one week for the start of the competition program of the 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE, the organizing committee finally prepared to ensure that the pieces that make up the immense puzle of the event fit perfectly.
Since its first edition in 1982, the MAPHRE King's Cup has not missed any summer in Palma, chaining 34 consecutive editions that have chosen 114 champions in different categories, and that have consolidated it as an essential quote in the international race calendar. Its 35th edition starts next Friday, July 29, with the press presentation in the RCNP, the first act of an intense program that will extend until Saturday, August 6. The organizing committee hastens the days to ensure a new success.
In the water
The first day of competition will take place within exactly one week, next Monday, August 1. With last minute changes, 127 teams of 19 nationalities will compete, distributed in eight classes: 4 teams in Montblanc Maxi 72, 10 in GC32, 12 in Singular Kitchen IRC 1, 38 in BMW ORC 1, 27 in BMW ORC 2, 12 in MRW Swan 45, 8 in Air Europa X35 and 16 in Herbalife J80. For the first time, the fleet will be deployed in four race fields.
The first exit of the 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE is scheduled for 13: 00 next Monday in three of the four fields and seven of the eight classes involved. Only the GC32 will wait until Wednesday, August 3, to open their locker.
On the ground
On the ground, King MAPHRE's 35 Cup proposes an intense menu of daily activities. Between 1 and 6 August, the program will be extended from 9: 30 and until 21: 00, with an attractive mix of gastronomy, music and entertainment. At the end of each day of competition, the acclaimed "La Copa" parties return, highlighting this year the Heineken Green Party, the Festival of Regatists by MAPHRE, the Blue Festival by Air Europa, or the emblematic Armors' Dinner by MAPHRE, a summer icon of Palma. The spectacular Ses Voltes complex, at the foot of the Cathedral of Palma, will again welcome the final award on August 6.

(12 / 07 / 2016) Four teams will defend the title in the 35 Cup of King Mapfre
More information on the composition of the fleet of the 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE is available every day. With 130 ships representing 19 countries, four of the eight 2015 champions return to Palma Bay to defend their title. The BMW Sail Racing won the last edition of the MAPHRE King's Cup in the BMW ORC 1 class, the Movistar in the BMW ORC 2 class, the Spanish Electric Network in Air Europa X-35 and the Herbalife Ono in the J80 class. All of them are listed in this 35th edition. And they come back with the illusion of living the "coppera" glory again.
A special date
With a fleet that exceeds 100 ships it is clear that there are many different boats and equipment: monotypes, multicascos, compensated time, real time, professionals, semi-professionals, amateurs... The fan is very wide but everyone has a common point: they want to be in the MAPHRE King's Cup."With six days of navigation, winning the MAPHRE King's Cup is important in the palmaris of any regatist", says Javier Sanz, owner of the Spanish Electric Network."May it be our King's Cup, the environment, its environment and organization"According to the owner and patron of the Ono, Daniel de la Pedraja, some of the reasons that make the MAPHRE King's Cup a great competition. Without forgetting of course factors such as "good wind and an exceptional regatta field," as the Italian Vittorio Codecasa points out; owner of the BMW Sail Racing that last year, after three participations, achieved its first triumph in the Mallorcan event.Keys to win
Triunfar in the MAPHRE King's Cup is not sewing and singing. Pedro Campos, in charge of the Movistar, managed in 2015 to beat the absolute brand of wins as a pattern, with a total of eight (1993, 1995, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2015). "It was one of the most difficult of eight, because we started with a black flag disqualification that we could no longer make any mistakes in what was left of the week. We had 11 races left and you play it in each. That, together with the high level of last year, with very equal rivals and four or five ships like ours," says the Galician.Daniel de la Pedraja recognizes that winning in the last edition "was a team success and a great satisfaction". Go back to Palma with the same crew, knowing that the key to win is "a good start, regularity, 'make our race' and team spirit, keeping the concentration to the end." But the Ono is not the only one who will repeat rows. At least eight ships representing Italy, Spain and the Netherlands will meet in the Air Europa class X-35. The Spanish Electric Network always held podium positions but it was not until 2015 that the longing triumph in Palma came. "It was a pride for us," declares Javier Sanz. "In the 'Cup' are six days of race, 12 tests and you don't get lucky. You have to have a good crew, good candles and above all know the boat very well".
Something in which, by asking about the keys to achieving victory in Palma, Vittorio Codecasa agrees: "It's a very competitive event and so you need all the major components to be top: ship, crew, candles, tactic...". For Campos, who sails in the largest category - BMW ORC - the simple answer is "fast boat and good crew." The complicated one is already "in our case that we run in compensated time, it is important to be the fastest of your departure to go ahead as that allows you to be free for the tactic. Many times in Palma there is a forced board and the one that goes ahead can choose...'Close the door 'we call him. The good crew is something obvious in any category. And another determining factor is to have worked hard on the boat's rating during the winter."
A wish
And what do they all ask of this 35 MAPHRE King's Cup that starts in less than three weeks?"There's a lot of sport, people have fun, we have good days of race and there's no problem", unveil Javier Sanz. Pedro Campos explores a little more: "The main, stable wind, which are not rare days difficult to foresee; when you go well prepared the last thing you want are lotteries. And of course to be away from the Jury, without having anything against them, but the protests are always elements we try to avoid to the maximum. In short, let us have a good championship, without penalties, and be pure tactic and speed."The title defender in Herbalife J80, asks this edition "to continue to enhance this great sport, to have a great time and to make a good race by fully competing on this front until the end."And following the prudent line of all of them, but "getting wet" a little more, Vittorio Codecasa: "Be in the top 5 final."
The 35 Cup of the King MAPHRE is organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Palma and will be held from July 30 to August 6 in the waters of Palma de Mallorca.
