The 28th edition of the Gran Canaria Wind and Waves Festival came down today with the closing ceremony in the tent of Pozo Izquierdo (Gran Canaria). The first test of the world wave circuit crowned two Spaniards on the top of the podium, Víctor Fernández, in the male category, and Daida Ruano in the female category. The closing event was attended by the Tourism Councillor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Inés Jiménez; the General Director of Tourism Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, Héctor Suárez, and the Mayor of Saint Lucia, Dunia González, together with representatives of sponsors and collaborators.

The results of the Simple Eliminatory held on Friday have been the final results for the Grancan test, after the day of today, Saturday, July 9, is suspended due to lack of wind. The male podium was completed by the German based in Gran Canaria, Philip Koster, and the Australian Jaeger Stone, second and third, respectively. In the female category, they accompanied Daida Ruano, the arubense Sarah-Quita Offringa and her sister Ibala Ruano, second and third classified, respectively.

The trophies of the young category were also delivered, which this year recorded a surprising inscription with 24 Riders divided into 3 categories. In the category 16- 18 years, the French Loick Lesauvage and the Aroteño, of French origin, Noah Roche, were tied to points in the first square. In the 14-15 year category, the first place was for Valentino Pasquale, while in the younger category, 12-13 years, the winner was Marino Gil.

After the Grancan test, the competitors of the PWA Wave World Circuit will move to Tenerife to compete in the Mexico from 1 to 7 August, where it will be the second wave event of the 2016 PWA World Circuit season.
