Ten flying ships participate in the Failing Week GC32 in Malcesine
In Malcesine, accompanied by more than 80 boats, ten GC32 catamarans will face from Thursday to Sunday in the second stage of the Racing Tour. The GC32 Norauto and its patron Franck Cammas, champion at the Riva Cup held in late May, return to Italy with a great desire to compete in an event that is announced very special. On one or two helmets, on a surfboard or kitesurf, each of the athletes of the Failing Week has found its ideal support. From the GC32, to the Flying Phanthom, Moth, Kitefoil or Windfoil, as well as some prototypes, more or less daring, will be present in the Italian town, all gathered in the Sailing Club of Malcesine.
Of all these flying ships, Franck Cammas has already sailed in Moth and Flying Phantom and has twice won the Little Cup in Class C. But this week, in Malcesine, I wouldn't trade a boat for anything in the world. With Groupama Team France, the French pattern is prepared with its crew for the 35th edition of the Copa América, which will also be held in a catamaran with rigid sailing fils, very similar to the GC32 of the Racing Tour.
"In Malcesine we want to look for a good result on the GC32 Racing Tour, in this way we multiply the hours of training and navigation, which are very important for future Cup tests. We have been sailing here since last Thursday, which has given us a week of full training before the start of the test. Adam Minoprio * has been changing with Thierry Fouchier, as his profile and experience help us a lot in our progression," says Franck Cammas.
Malcesine is located a few kilometers south of Riva, and the conditions of navigation are a little different. "As usual, there would have to be less wind in this area of the lake. The performance of the ships is very similar, so there will be a lot of competition," says Franck Cammas. The flying candle is everywhere! In fact, during this week in France, the team is also preparing to unveil a new and exceptional boat for the American Cup.
Groupama Team France and Norauto, official sponsors, will present the new Class AC Test 45-foot catamaran on 11 July at 18: 30 in Lorient. The ship, almost a twin brother of the Class AC that will compete in Bermuda next year, is the result of thousands of hours of work and will be the test laboratory of the three-color team in the coming months.
* In 2009, New Zealand was the youngest world champion in match-race and has also participated in the Volvo Ocean Race and has collaborated with Luna Rossa in the America Cup.
