After more than 70 years on the Spanish market, Metropolis Seguros has been consolidated as one of the reference firms within the insurance field, especially in the nautical sector, offering its customers great closeness and flexibility to adapt to each particular and concrete circumstance. Metropolis Insurance has a portfolio of custom insurance products for different types of ships. We talked to his vice president, Javier Celma Mendoza.

When was the nautical division of Metropolis Insurance born?

As an amateur navigator I observed that there was no company that had personnel specialized in the nautical sector that understood and met the concerns of the lovers of the world of nautical. That's why in Metropolis Insurance we decided to create in 1999 the Maritime Department and we launched our first insurance product, METROmar.

What has been the basis for your success?

The key to the success of Metropolis Insurance has been to create a Department of Maritime Insurance with personnel specialized in nautical issues that provide accurate information at once on all the necessary insurance products in the nautical world and to support us in specialized partners.

What added value does it bring to the market?

Specialisation. During these 15 years our boat department has continued to develop specific products for both recreational boats and nautical schools, diving schools, water motorcycles, charter boats, multi-commercial risks of nautical and motoronautics, sports ports and transport of vessels that fit their coverage to the real needs of the customer by imposing on our daily work high standards of quality, professionalism and service, including in the expert activities, which are carried out by experts specialized in ships. This specialization has led us to reach important agreements in the sector, the last of them with Marina Estrella, distributor and leading nautical broker of the sector in Spain.

What actions do you take to support the nautical sector?

Our objective is not only to be the reference of the Spanish nautical sector in the field of insurance, but also to participate actively in the promotion of the world of nautical. This is why we participate in different nautical associations, such as the CME and ANEN, we develop continuous activities of sponsoring ships in addition to events and races. This commitment has led us to participate actively in the Unespa Recreation Commission, which analyses the various problems of the nautical sector in order to provide better service to the navigators and the public administration.

What are the advantages for your organization of belonging to the Spanish Maritime Cluster?

The main advantage is to belong to a forum of companies that are united by a common objective and area of work as our seas are. To belong to the CME is being a very positive experience because it allows us to collaborate and exchange experiences with the main companies in the sector.

Where would you like to see Clúster in five years?

Metropolis Insurance sees with great hope the future of the CME. We are sure that in these five years the CME will be consolidated as the reference in the maritime sector.
