The "Saint Maxime" crossed the line of arrival in Angra do Heroismo in the first place

The Baiona-Angra Regata concluded, as regards its first act on the morning of July 11. The first two places were confirmed for the "Saint Maxime" of Miguel Lago (MRCY Baiona) and the "Xekmatt" of José Carlos Prista (AN Lisboa). The struggle for bronze as we anticipated was for the "Cleopatra" of José Rafael Ribeiro (ANR), but the surprise was that the "Free Spitrit" of Yann Lascan of the Abra of Getxo Maritime would unbanish the "Atlantis" of Ivan Prieto Cáceres (LM Bouzas) that had to conform to the fifth square. The other five failed to complete this first stage, from a race that is like the Rías but "to the bilbain" with two stages of 900 miles.

The Saint Maxime of Mount Real Club of Yates has been the first ship to cross, this morning, the line of arrival of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, the ocean race that is held these days in the Atlantic organized by Mount Real Club of Yates and the Angra Iate Clube. The Galician crew was the fastest to complete the 865 miles of the first stage of the competition, which last Sunday sailed from the marina village of Baiona towards the Azorian town of Angra do Heroismo.

According to the tracking system installed on board the ship, the Saint Maxime sailed at an average speed of 7.2 knots, reaching a maximum of 11.6 times, and used 5 days, 13 hours and 43 hours to complete the tour. This early morning, at 2: 43 Spanish time, he was the first to cross the arrival line on Terceira Island and became the real-time winner of the first stage of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race.

At the wheel of the ship, a 50-foot carbon Shipman designed by J & J Desing and armed by José Miguel Roquette, was one of the great names of the nautical in Galicia, the Miguel Lago vineyard. Winner of the I Route of Discovery in 1984, of the Europe Round and of the Fasnet Race in 93, of three editions of the Sardinia Cup and so many other Copas del Rey, this experienced timer now adds a new triumph to its extensive curriculum of nautical victories.

Along with him, completing the crew, three of his usual race companions, Juan José Lago, Gerardo Alonso and Javier Lago, and two other prominent regatists, Daniel Méndez and Guillermo Caamaño. A team of six who was able to complement themselves perfectly to place the Saint Maxime at the head of the race at all times and cross the arrival line in first position.

The Xekmatt by José Carlos Prista of the Lisbon Naval Association was, without a doubt, another of the important ships of this first stage of the Angra Atlantic Race. This Portuguese team of family and friends, with more than ten years of experience in regatas and numerous wins in trophies such as the Prince of Asturias, the Atlantic Cup of Azores and several cruise championships of Portugal, sailed during the first days following almost the same course as the Saint Maxime, but in the final straight they were separated and were less lucky than the Galician. They crossed the line of arrival for seconds about five hours after the first.

The rest of the fleet sailed something more distant from the first and rather grouped together. The Atlantis of the Bouzas Maritime Licensing, patronized by Ivan Prieto, and with free software technology on board, led this group most of the time, sailing at an average speed of 5.9 knots and reaching 10 for moments. Along with him, the Free Spirit of Yann Lascan, of the Royal Maritime Club of Abra; and the Cleopatra of José Rafael Ribero, of the Nautical Association of Recreation. A little more off was the crew of the smaller ship of the fleet, the Brumario, of the Nautical Club of Ribeira, with Alejandro Pazó at the command.

At five in the afternoon of Saturday "Atlantis" of the Bouzas Maritime Liceum marches in third place, sailing almost 4 knots. Back to 10 miles "Free Spirit" and "Cleopatra" and further delay the "Brumario."

The Pakea Cadenote One, by Unai Basurko, finally decided to abandon the first stage of the competition. After having suffered a number of technical problems that forced him to return to the peninsula and to have to return to the race later, the crew decided to withdraw and turn on the engine to get to Angra do Heroismo on time and to be able to perform the second stage, back to Baiona. The Pakea thus joined the Moflete and Txole, removed from the test within a few hours of taking the exit for various problems with the ship. The tenth ship registered in the race, the Dulcamara of Henril Olsson, did not come to sail due to problems in the engine.

The award of the first stage of the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race will be held next Wednesday at the Angra Iate Clube, and just a day later, Thursday 14, the second stage will begin, between Azores and Baiona.
