The first gold medal for Spain in the European Marathon Championship came from the palist of O Grove Tono Campos, in a race that dominated from beginning to end playing the victory in a disputed final sprint with Hungarian Marton Kover. The grovense was very satisfied with the victory, devoting it to his daughter and to all the people who came to cheer him up. The participation of Tono Campos has not yet ended, tomorrow has the possibility to achieve another medal with Jose Sánchez in the senior C2, where they will have as maximum rivals their Galician companions Oscar Graña and Ramón Ferro and the Hungarian couple formed by Marton Kover and Adam Docze, the latter are the favorites as since 2004 no Spanish boat was able to beat them. On the other hand the first medal of the day was obtained by Raquel Rodríguez of the E.P. City of Pontevedra. The pontevedresa was third behind German Cathrin Duerr and French Pauline Martin.

Friday Day

The only Spanish medal was for Francisco Capín and David Migoya. Local piragüist Damian González, one of the Galician hopes, could only be sixth in C-1 Sub23. Tomorrow he starts the competition in the Sénior category K1 and C1. On a cloudy day, the color was once again put by the Hungarian expedition, again rolling, as on the first day of the elite championship. The public responded as never, perhaps because of excellent weather conditions, perhaps because there is no better publicity than mouth-to-mouth. After two days of master's competition and two days of elite, Pontevedra begins to be that big date kettle, turned into support for local athletes and always respectful of their guests. On this occasion, the only medals for the Spanish team were for the K-2 of the Asturians Francisco Capín and David Migoya, who crossed the goal ahead of the Portuguese couple, Ferreiro and Cruz, and were only overcome by the intrepable Hungarian Istvan Lukacs and Akos Obert. Cristobal Cuesta and Juan Serrano arrived in sixth position to the goal.

The first departure was given at 10: 15 in the morning for the women of the youth category in K2, in which the palists of the Club As Torres Fátima Ordóñez and Catuxa Fabeiro participated, those of Catoira made a very good race that led them to the seventh final position, in a hard race in which they were not able to reach the group of head, they were able to measure their forces with a great result. The victory was carried by the Hungarian couple Fruzsina Nagy and Zsomia Korsos, with this result Nagy achieved his second gold medal in the championship. In second position the Belgian Roos Broekx and Hanna Plas, third were Cathrinen Rank and Line Langelund of Denmark. The other Spanish K2 with María López and Arantza Toledo ended 9th.

The local swamp had also turned with Damian González and Manuel Cons, but the luck was elusive from the first meters and ended up in some discreet, but meritorious, sixth and tenth positions. They both suffered a shock within 300 meters of the departure that made them waste time with the other competitors, in the end this circumstance proved to be crucial for the outcome of the race, both made a great effort to try to reach the medal posts, passing it bill in the last two laps of the tour. Damian then performed much of the competition in fourth position, the wear done made him lose two positions, reaching goal in sixth position. Manuel Cons, for his part, ended up in tenth position. The triumph fell, of course, from the hand of the Hungarian athlete Balazs Dori, second place for Patrik Gluza and third Mateusz Borgiel both of Poland.

Very public and excellent atmosphere. He was in Pontevedra José Ramón Lete General Secretary of the Galician Sport (RFEP).

In male C2 the canoists of the Club Piragüismo Illa of Arousa Yeray García and David Mochales achieved sixth position in a race in which they were unable to fight for the medals, where the wind was the protagonist throughout the competition doing if the race is harder. The other Spanish vessel of David Moreno and Sergio Santiago was sixth. The first three positions were for Ricardo Coelho and Duarte Silva of Portugal, second for Arved Heine and Jonas Mode of Germany, third were Patrik Piotrowicz and Mateusz Cybula of Poland. To finish the races of the day at 15: 45, the kayak men took the exit in the S23 category where Alberto Plaza got the fourth position, Miguel Llorens, retired in half of the test. In the first position came Adam Petro from Hungary, the second and third were respectively Brand Petersen and Due Morke from Denmark.

First Day

Spain completes the first day of the European Marathon Championships with two bronze medals in the female category. Nora Rey in K1 Júnior and Lara Outon in C1 Júnior were the protagonists of a day dominated by the Hungarian team. In the other three scheduled finals were Lucia Arquero 4th K1 S23, Noel Domínguez 4th in C1 Júnior and Emilio Fernández 7th in K1 Júnior. The second day of the Pontevedra Europeans from 11.15 a.m. tomorrow. The young team starred in four of the five finals scheduled for the opening day. At 10: 00, the final of K1 Júnior was held with the Spanish Nora Rey, who hung the first Spanish medal in the Pontevedra Europeans only surpassed by Hungarian palists Nagy and Balogh, and Elisa Zapata who completed the race in the 4th place. The second final of the day came from the hand of the second Spanish medal. The bronze medal was also hung in C1, a female junior Lara Outón. The palist of the O Grove Breogan Club completed the 19,000 meters in 1: 37: 23 seconds, reaching 0: 4: 56 seconds from the first classified Hungarian palist Panna Palfia, the second position was taken by the German Julia Dunkel. In fifth position, Maria Martín entered.

However, the remaining three finals did not add new medals for Spain. In female kayak S23 the Spanish Lucia Arquero 4th and Carolina Massagues 5th remained at the doors of the medals behind the Hungarian Kiszli and Misko, gold and silver respectively, and the Danish Rosendkilde who hung the bronze. The fate was not on the side of Lucia, the palist of Aranjuez made the whole race in podium positions until the last 1000 meters, once the last portage was made when she was prepared to climb in the pyre suffered an unexpected turn that left her without the desired medal. Hungary again demonstrated its power by taking the gold and silver medal obtained by Vanda Kiszli and Noémi Miskó.

The fourth place was also the position of Noel Dominguez in the male Júnior final of C1 that came to dominate in the first turns of the tour, while Samuel Mayor finished 7th. The Galician canoist of O Grove's Breogan imposed a very high rate since the start of the race and this led to travel alone during the first two turns, in the fourth turn his three followers gave him reach, Noel paid the effort made earlier not being able to follow them, ending fourth at 1: 45 seconds of the first Portuguese Sergio Maciel, the second and third position was the Hungarians Sebestién Simon and Balazs Adlof respectively. In the final that closed the day Emilio Fernández finished 7th and the other Spanish in the race of the K1 Júnior masculine Raimon Gastaldo concluded 12th. The victory for Hungarian Bazsonyi followed by Portuguese Ferreira and German Paufler. Even in four of the five podiums of this first day of the European Championship of Piragüismo Marathon Elite, this melody was played in recognition of the winner of each test (Fruzsina Nagy, Panna Falfia, Vanda Kiszli and Balint Bendegz Bazsonyi)... and in the only one in which Hungary was won (C-1 male junior) two of its canoists escorted the winner, the Portuguese Sérgio Maciel. With eight medals of the 15 in dispute, this country, where pyragüism is the national sport, put not a spike on Flanders, but its flag to proudly wave the blue sky of Pontevedra. On a day when the sun was gradually opening up, the slight drop in temperature - slightly softer than in the two days of the Master Championship - contributed to the competition being developed under appropriate environmental conditions. For the day to be round, only a little more fortune was missing for the 'local' athletes, who had to settle for the bronzes of the Galician Lara Outón and the Asturian Nora Rey.

After the award ceremony, the Spanish team posed for a group photo on the shore of the Lérez. This was the end of the third day of the Championships of Piragüismo Pontevedra 2016 (RFEP).
