A parade with 155 young regatists from the square of the City of Portugalete to pass through the Bizkaia Zubia; the legendary Pendant Bridge and the Arenas to the Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club was the opening event of the Spanish Optimist Championship, which is held from Wednesday to Sunday in the Abra.

The Vizcaina waters of the Abra, with the organization of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, host until Saturday, April 4, the Spanish Optimist Championship with participants from Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Cantabria, Galicia, Valencia, Madrid, Melilla, Murcia and the Basque Country. The inaugural event included Carlos Sergio, Director of Sports of the Federal Council of Bizkaia; Álvaro González, Councilman of the City of Getxo; Íñigo Smith, President of the Basque Federation; Joaquín Valero, President of the AECIO; and Carmen Galdós and Juan Penide, President and Commodore of the Organizing Club, respectively.

This Spanish Championship 2026 of the International Optimist Class is organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club by delegation of the Real Federación Española de Vela, in collaboration with the Basque and Vizcaine de Vela Federations and the Spanish Association of the International Optimist Class (AECIO), Kirolur, Getxo City Council, as well as with the support of the Bizkaia Bridge, Coca Cola, Hospital San Juan de Dios and BCD Meeting and Events.
