The bay of Palma met in the premiere of the Olympic candle at the 55 Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca by Fergus Hotels. The first day was marked by the widespread irregularity of the crews, but the Spanish Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona already lead in the 470 Mixed class. The nationals Paula Barceló and María Cantero also had a good start, and they occupy the second temporary square of 49erFX (Photo Sailing Energy)

Sun and very variable winds, between 5 and 20 knots of intensity, starred in the first day of the 55 Trophy Princess Sofia Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels of Olympic sailing, in which six of the ten classes that formed the program of the Games of Los Angeles 2028: 470 Mixed, 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 were premiered.

In 49erFX, the female skiff, more than 60 ships aligned in the exits between the yellow and blue fleet. After three tests, the trio of crews on the podium, curiously, had on the first sleeve of the day its worst result, and therefore its discards, but in the following no longer failed. The Belgians Isaura Maenhaut and Anouk Geurts are the first provisional leaders, followed by the Spanish Paula Barceló and María Cantero, second to only two points. They formed a crew a year ago, last October they won the title of world champions and today they started their first Sofia together with a partial victory in their locker and provisional silver, although this has only just begun. The Swedish Olympic medalist in Paris 2024 Vilma Bobeck and her new partner Ebba Berntsson are third.

The 49er class, with 101 boats, lived a very irregular day and most of the favorites punctured on at least one of the three sleeves completed. At the front of the table are the Danish Frederik Rank and Jakob Precht Jensen, tied with the second and third, which are the Australians Harry Price and Max Paul and the French Lucas Rual and Emile Amoros, respectively. Among the national squadron, the best in the inaugural day were the young Pol and Alex Marsans, who were placed twenty-fourth after signing two tenth first and one fourth in the yellow group. The brothers Martin and Jaime Wizner signed a third but their other two partials were discards and marched the 47th.

The 470 Mixed class, with 64 teams divided into two fleets, completed the three scheduled sleeves and has the Spanish Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona as the first leaders of the general classification. The Catalan dupla-balear did not start the day with good foot, as a premature disqualification becomes its discard. Far from accusing the coup, the current world champions reacted with authority. With a second and a first in the second and third tests of the day, Xammar and Cardona signed a report that allows them to unbank the Portuguese Diogo Costa and Carolina Joao. The Lusa crew occupies the second temporary square after a great day and is tied to three points with the Spaniards. In the Nacra 17 class, the flying catamaran, with 42 ships distributed in two fleets, were held three tests that were very profitable for the Swedish Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson, first leaders. They complete a very compact provisional podium by their compatriots Ida Svensson and Marcus Dackhammar and the Argentines Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco, in this order. The Spanish Joan Cardona and Nicole Van der Velden began twenty-third, a place ahead of the young Daniel and Nora Garcia of the House.

With 195 participants in total, the three ILCA 7 fleets completed two sleeves of which the Australian Matt Wearn, the Olympic champion in Paris 2024, first benefited. The Singaporean Ryan Lo and the Croatian Bruno Gaspic occupy the remaining drawers of the provisional podium, tied to points next to the fourth, the Italian Lorenzo Chiavarini. The first Spanish is the Majorcan Sergio García, which is the 45th.

In ILCA 6, with 143 registered, the two fleets were able to complete only one of the three expected sleeves due to wind instability and despite the efforts of the Regatas Committee to move the program forward. The general is led with a double tie in the head between the British Matilda Nicholls and the Polish Wiktoria Golebiowska, victors in their respective fleets in the only disputed test of the day. Good start also of the Spanish Isabel Hernández and Marina Serrano, which start their participation in this 55th edition within the Top 10, occupying the seventh and ninth provisional square respectively.
