The World Sailing is conducting tests to make the Olympic candle more exciting. A new system of endings was already carried out at the 49er World Championship and FX 2025, replacing the traditional Medal Race, as we had established them so far. And it has been reused in the 470 European Championship.

The new end system for the Olympic classes heading to Los Angeles 2028 seeks to make the races more agile, televised and open to the end, preventing a team from reaching the Medal Race with a virtually final advantage. It is already being experienced in international championships, such as the 470 European and will also be done in the Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy... the format will appear to be divided into three phases: classification, final and medal series, with a different score system than that used to date.

Final Series: In the gold and silver fleets, seven races will be played. The third test of this phase will rule out the worst result obtained in the finals. The top ten crews will be classified to fight the Medal Series.

Medal Series: With two sleeves, not disposable and maximum 30 minutes. The first three shall maintain their points if the difference between them is less than nine; if it exceeds that figure, it shall be reduced to a maximum of nine points.

In addition to dl 3rd to 10th, a special score system will also be applied for all crews to maintain options to fight for medals... the difference between the third and the tenth places will have a maximum of 18 points.
