The Royal Spanish Federation of Vela announces the ambitious sports plan of one of its reference crews in the Spanish pre-Olympic sailing team, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel. After proclaiming Olympic champions in Paris 2024 and winning the world crown last October in Cagliari (Italy), the Spanish regatists of 49er face the challenge of the American Cup while maintaining their firm commitment to fight for another medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.
In 2026, the Catalan-Cantabrian crew will focus on their transition to the American Cup with the French team K-Challenge. It will not take part in Olympic sailing competitions, but will maintain a technical training program at 49er to preserve its competitive level.
In 2027, they will match the American Cup with the 49er World Championship, which will be held in Gdynia (Poland) in summer, and where the first country squares for the Olympic Games are in play. The goal of Botín and Trittel, along with the rest of the crews of the 49er pre-Olympic team, will be to secure the passport of Los Angeles 2028 for Spain.
From the end of the American Cup in summer 2027, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel will resume their Olympic campaign to the highest level, with the aim of reaching the Angels 2028 in a position to fight for the medals.
