The Spanish regatist Támara Echegoyen has entered the history of ocean navigation after completing the first unstoppable circumnavigation of the planet by a crew of exclusively women, on board the maxi triarán IDEC SPORT, within the international project The Famous Project CIC. After 57 days, 21 hours and 20 minutes of uninterrupted navigation, the French-led team Alexia Barrier successfully completed one of the greatest challenges of the world's sailing: the return to the world does not stop following the path of the Jules Verne Trophy, one of the most demanding tests of the ocean calendar.

For Támara Echegoyen, the Olympic champion and one of the great references of the Spanish candle, this is a step further in a path marked by the highest level challenges. The Galician regatist was part of an international crew of eight women and seven nationalities, becoming the only Spanish representative of this pioneering project.

  • The adventure began on November 28 in front of Ushant (France) and was marked by extreme conditions: winter seasons, waves of more than eight meters, winds above 50 knots, technical failures and a constant physical and mental requirement. For more than eight weeks, the crew lived together on board the powerful will be divided into shifts of just three hours, facing each maneuver with precision and cold blood.
  • One of the most symbolic moments of the tour was the passage through Cabo de Hornos on January 6, a mythical point of navigation that no female crew had so far overcome in a non-stop ocean race in multicasco. They also crossed the Indian Ocean, the South Pacific and the Atlantic, completing almost 26,000 kilometres around the planet.
  • The participation of the Galician Támara Echegoyen in The Famous Project CIC strengthens its profile as a total sportsman, able to move its Olympic experience to the most extreme stage of the ocean candle. This achievement is not only a sports success, but also an inspiring message for women's sport, showing that there are no limits when talent, preparation and teamwork go hand in hand.
