Less than a year after the start of The Ocean Race 2027, the world's main ocean sailing competition with full crew has today confirmed a record first stage that will lead the crews to travel half the world. On January 17, 2027, the world's best regatists will start from Alicante, to face an unprecedented first stage that will take them to Auckland (New Zealand), on the planet's antipods. This is the longest opening stage in the 53 years of The Ocean Race history. This extraordinary 14,000 nautical mile tour will mark the tone of the considered greatest challenge by sports teams.
The edition of 2027 will have a spectacular global route, with four ports of call already announced and the complete route that will be confirmed in the coming months: The race will begin in Alicante Puerto de Departure de la Vuelta al Mundo a sailing on January 17, 2027. The historic Mediterranean city and world headquarters of The Ocean Race will be the scene of the beginning of the world's toughest ocean race for the sixth consecutive edition.
