CartagJanuary Antonio Maestre is the new Iberian champion of 2.4mR in Baiona
On board the Samba Pati and with hardly any improvement results, the cartagJanuary Antonio Maestre was made this afternoon in Baiona with the victory of the Iberian Class 2.4mR Championship, organized by the Monte Real Club de Yates by delegation of the Royal Spanish Vela Federation.
The Paralympic athlete of the Real Club de Regatas de Cartagena arrived in Galicia willing to improve the bronze he achieved in the national of the class last March, and did so with power. He signed four first posts and one second in the total of six trials held throughout the weekend in the Adapted Vela Vitaldent Regata, included in the IV Iberdrola Circus of Paralympic Vela.
It was, he says, "a very technical competition, with a field of races somewhat complicated by the currents, which must be very well understood to achieve good results." But despite these currents, and despite breaking the pinzote of the botavara, Master finally achieved the victory of the competition in a club where, he claims, it feels at home. "Coming to Baiona is always a pleasure, for how beautiful this is and for how well they treat us on Mount Real. When they ask the regatists where we want to go sailing, Baiona is a place that always comes out, because it is a place where we feel very comfortable."
Three points away from the victory was the Andalusian regatist and coach Nacho Zalvide, the Real Club Marítimo and Tennis de Punta Umbria. The one from Huelva reached the final day as a provisional leader after the first tests, but he could not follow the pace of Master and ended up falling from the top of the podium to the second drawer.
The gold was therefore left for Murcia, the silver for Andalusia, and the bronze remained Galicia, from the hand of the regatist of the Club de Vela Escota de Vigo, Fran Piñeiro. The Galician made it clear on Saturday, with a fourth place, that he wanted a podium place of the competition, and this Sunday he finally got it.
On the ground, Piñeiro was very satisfied with the results and, above all, with the evolution he is achieving in the season. He himself recognizes that he started something loose, but that he is gradually taking rhythm. He also says that this is influenced by the fact that, from a time to this part, he enjoys much more sailing because, he says, once he has made classification for the Rio Olympics, there is again a great atmosphere among the regatists.
The Iberian Championship of Class 2.4mR - Adapted Vela Vitaldent Regata, included in the IV Iberdrola Circuit of Paralympic Sailing, ended with the award of prizes to the winners, in which the mayor and the city council of accessibility of Baiona, Ángel Rodal and Policarpo Vilar participated; the delegate of Iberdrola in Galicia, Francisco Silva; the head of marine and fishing of Repsol, Inés González Megido; and the president and vice president of the Monte Real Club of Yates, José Luis Álvarez and Alejandro Retolaza.
The next competition of Mount Real Club de Yates is one of the great citations of the nautical panorama this year, the Baiona Angra Atlantic Race, an ocean race that will start next Sunday, July 3 of the Galician marinera villa on the way to Angra do Heroismo, in the lush archipelago of Azores.
