Rolex Sydney Hobart 80 editions of ocean sailing history

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race brings together regatists of all origins (professional and amateur, young and veterans, men and women) who share one single goal: to test one of the world's most important ocean races
The Rolex Sydney Hobart this year celebrates its 80th edition with an impressive participation of more than 130 ships, including five colossals of 30.5 meters in length that anticipate a historic battle at the front of the fleet for real-time victory along the 628 nautical miles of the legendary tour between Sydney and Hobart, capital of Tasmania.

The Tattersall Cup, the historic perpetual trophy of the race and its most coveted prize, is awarded along with a Rolex recorded to the absolute winner by handicap, a merit that does not take into account the size of the ship or the reputation of its crew...
It is received by the best boatboat, which exceeds its competitors whatever the conditions. The smaller sailboats that have won it are the Screw Loose in 1979 and the Zeus II in 1981, both of 9.2 meters long (30 feet); the largest, the Wild Oats XI, 100 feet, in 2005 and 2012. The Freya, of 11.96 meters (39 feet), is the only one that has raised the trophy three consecutive times, in 1963, 1964 and 1965. But in the last six years, absolute victory has become a custom for three patterns, Philip Turner, Matt Allen and Sam Haynes, with two wins each. In all cases, success came after many years of perseverance, the result of experience accumulated over time.
