Centenary Tournament of Saint Tropez the other galaxy of the classics

The race begins tomorrow Thursday at 12: 30 with the departure of the first yacht... it is Sky (built in 1890) will be the oldest centenary yacht of the fleet, while the Leonore Q-Class has just completed its 100 years (built in 1925) will be the youngest and will have a legendary crew on board (Photo Juerg Kaufmann)
Centenary yachts of rare elegance are prepared to compete in a unique race... as each year since its creation in 2011, the Centennial Trophy will follow the form of a race of persecution: each yacht comes out at an hour determined by its classification. The first to cross the finish line ahead of the Tour du Portalet is declared a winner. This format puts all competitors on an equal footing and guarantees suspension and uncertainty up to the line of arrival.
Today, the Place des Lices will acquire a clearly Swiss atmosphere for the already iconic Swiss Night, a festive moment of Les Voiles de Saint- Tropez. For the third consecutive year, the Gstaad Yacht Club will celebrate the Swiss heritage with a warm and lively evening that mixes tradition and camaraderie. The Centenary Trophy, which is given every year at the Owners' Dinner, has its own historical meaning. Originally created in 1911 by the renowned London plateurs Wakely and Wheeler, the trophy is itself a centenary: created exactly 100 years before the first edition of the race was launched in 2011. An emblem suitable for a race that celebrates the enduring elegance of the yachts more than a century old.
