2025-09-02: The Ocean Race Etapa4: the struggle between Allagrande, Team Holcim, Biotherm and Paprec Arkéa

After more than 400 nautical miles of a very tight race at Stage 4 of The Ocean Race Europe 2025, at noon only a few miles separated the first four teams, which slowly advance through the Gulf of Genoa in conditions of little sight. A 2: 00 CEST, the local favorite, Allagrande Mapei Racing - patroniado by Ambrogio Beccaria (ITA) - was in an intense struggle with the two French teams: Team Paprec Arkéa - with Yoann Richomme (FRA), and the general team of the FRA - and the Swiss team - by the leader of the National Council of the European Union (FRA).

For a moment, it seemed that Holcim-PRB - led at this stage by Nico Lunven (FRA) - would take the lead after a move south on a waypoint road in front of Alassio, in the western part of the bay. But in the final approach to the virtual beacon, Allagrande Mapei Racing was placed in first position.

With winds that did not exceed 10 knots, IMOCA progress with difficulty in the last part of the fourth stage from Nice (France), which will lead the crews to travel three quarters of the Gulf of Genoa to a last waypoint before setting a north direction towards the goal in Genoa.

Last night, Holcim-PRB led the fleet in the Strait of Bonifacio, followed very closely by Paprec Arkéa, Biotherm and Allagrande Mapei Racing. After the soft winds in the western part of Corsica, the conditions in the narrow, channeled between Corsica to the north and Sardinia to the south, forced the sailors to change the way: they went from the giant foques Code Zero to the smaller J3, while the IMOCA accelerated with the new breeze.

2025-09-01: The Ocean Race Etapa4: Team Holcim-PRB leader... and the fleet is approaching Boniface

After a complicated night and with the Boniface Strait already on the horizon, the Swiss team is on top of the tracker, just ahead of Biotherm and Team Paprec Arkéa (Photo Anne Beaugé)

After a tense night in which the fleet of seven ships came to sail in parallel, gradually moving forward in search of any breath of wind heading south, the trio-head - Holcim-PRB (SUI), Biotherm (FRA) and Team Paprec Arkéa (FRA) - are preparing to enter the Strait of Boniface, which separates Corsica from Sardinia.

Biotherm, patronized by Paul Meilhat, was awarded last night the two points at stake by first passing through Monaco's sharp passage door, after a stroke of audacity in Cabo Ferrat that allowed him to take away the leadership of Holcim-PRB, with Nico Lunven (FRA) in command at this stage. The Swiss team got a point for their second position.

Already in the south, with the wind falling, it was the Team Paprec Arkéa of Yoann Richomme who knew how to get better, keeping the speed and making it possible to open a minimum one mile advantage in full darkness.

The relief reached around 02: 00, when a fresh streak first reached Holcim-PRB, Biotherm, Team Paprec Arkéa and the Allagrande Mapei Racing (ITA, Ambrogio Beccaria), which accelerated to 15-20 knots and took off from the chasing group, formed by Team Malizia (GER, Boris Herrmann), Canada Ocean Racing - Be Water Positive (Scott Shawyer) and Team Amaala (SUI / KSA, Alan Roura).

At dawn, after turning east to Bonifacio, Biotherm, Holcim-PRB and Allagrande Mapei, they reached Team Paprec Arkéa again. At 12: 00 CEST, Holcim-PRB was on the head of the tracker, though with the other three teams right behind, ready to go. With new changes in the prognosis and numerous turns ahead, it is still impossible to venture who will first bend the southern tip of Corsica.

The point group is scheduled to cross the Strait of Boniface around 15: 00 CEST, sailing near the northern tip of Sardinia. The prize for the first one will be decisive: immediate access to the winds of the southeast 10 knots that will drive the leaders towards the goal of Stage 4 in Genoa, Italy.

2025-08-31: The Ocean Race Etapa4: the fleet part of Nice towards Genoa

Biotherm marks a slight initial advantage in Monaco's punctuable gateway in which it adds 2 extra points

The international fleet of the seven IMOCA competing in The Ocean Race Europe 2025 sailed this Sunday from Nice, France, to fight the fourth of the five stages that make up the race, heading for Genoa where they will arrive after surrounding the French island of Corsica. Biotherm was the first team to cross the punctuable door in monaquesque waters, giving them 2 extra points, followed by Holcim-PRB, which adds up to 1 point. Holcim - PRB, patrolling on this occasion by Nico Lunven in place of Rosalin Kuiper, made the best exit at the end of the sotavento and took advantage of the clean air to take off from the group in the first minutes. Biotherm (FRA), with Paul Meilhat at the helm and leader of the general, also came out clearly by barlovento. Team AMAALA was the only one who took off by port, soon separating from the platoon as he headed in the sea.
