Gran Canaria rebecomes an international center of water sport with the celebration of the Wingfire World Cup, which will bring together half a hundred of the best Riders in the world, from more than 12 countries... The Gran Canaria GWA Wingfire World Cup 2025, sponsored by the Tourism and Sport areas of the Gran Canaria Cabildo and the Sports Council of the Government of Canaria, anticipates an estimated return of more than 10 million euros
For the third consecutive year, Gran Canaria is in the international elite of nautical sport as it becomes the official headquarters of the Global Wingsports Association (GWA) world circuit, with the celebration of the Great Canaria GWA WingFoil World Cup 2025. The event will take place from 5 to 8 August in the Playa de El Burrero (municipality of Ingenio), and will have the participation of more than 45 Riders from 12 different countries in the Wingfire Surf-Freestyle class.
The official presentation event took place this morning at the Casa Palacio del Cabildo in Gran Canaria, with the participation of Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo; Aridany Romero, sports adviser; and Vanesa Martín, mayor of Ingenio. In addition, representatives of collaborating entities such as Guiomar Bonilla, technical director of the Royal Canary Federation of Vela or Bernardo Salom, former member of the Federation of Latin Vela Canaria, were present. The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria highlighted the importance of the blue economy and the role played by sport and events like this for the Gross Domestic Product of the island.
