Gisela Polido opens the Olympic regatta field in the Long Beach Regatta

The world pluricampeone of kitesurf is the only Spanish representative in the new competition of the Olympic sailing circuit
The Spanish kitesurfer Gisela Pulido participates from tomorrow at the Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta, which takes place in the Los Angeles regatta field 2028. This new competition is added to the Olympic sailing circuit, the Sailing Grand Slam, to allow the regatists to know the waters that will host the next Games. The delay in the announcement of the Olympic headquarters for the sport of the sailing has prevented the participation of more Spanish athletes in the California meeting.
Gisela Polido will have the privilege of opening the Los Angeles 2028 race field these days. The fact that you can carry your equipment on the air travel allows you to be the first Spanish representative to sail in the Olympic waters. The need to send the ships in container for the rest of the classes has prevented the participation of other national regatists, as the Olympic headquarters (Belmont Shore in Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles) have been confirmed just a few weeks ago, without material time to organize this complicated logistics.
The Catalan rider arrived last Sunday in Los Angeles with his coach, Antonio Minguez, who has explained his impressions on the area of play for sailing in the next Games: "We have been sailing five days in the waters of Belmont Shore and the field of races seems relatively simple, without wave and with a rather strong thermal wind, which many days reaches 17-18 knots of intensity."
Gisela Polido will play the opening tests of the Long Beach Regatta tomorrow, Saturday, July 12, in the first of four theoretical days of competition. This is an atypical short program, although for this class day 16 is planned as a possible day of reservation. A total of 18 sleeves are scheduled for this discipline, Formula Kite. The Spanish athlete will compete in a fleet of 20 Riders, including the current Olympic champion, the British Ellie Aldridge, and the silver of Paris 2024, the French Lauriane Nolot.
