Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona new world champions of 470 Junta
The third attempt has been the good one in Gdynia's waters. The Spanish tandem has chosen the right side of the race field in the first corner, which has not been successful. They have also failed in the approach to the barlovent beacon, so Xammar and Cardona have had to start from behind, with their maximum rivals ahead. Every medal option was in danger.
The fourth of the Medal Race has served Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona to crown world champions. The silver has been hung by the Germans Simon Diesch and Anna Markfort, after signing a fifth in the final, and have completed the podium by the British Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris, who have been third in the Medal Race.
Spanish and German have ended up tied to points, but the unbound has been resolved in favor of Xammar and Cardona for having entered the Medal Race. The British have added only one more point than the champions and the subchampions. It is the second consecutive world title for the Olympic medalist, after the one achieved last year with Nora Brugman, with whom he ranked fourth in the Paris Games 2024. In addition to these two oars, Xammar treasures three other medals in 470 world-class dates: the 2018 bronze, the 2019 silver and another bronze in 2021.
