Jordi Xammar defends his 470 World Champion title with Marta Cardona in Poland

The mixed 470 World Championship, which starts tomorrow Monday in the waters of Gdynia (Poland), will be attended by two Spanish crews. On the one hand, Catalan Jordi Xammar will defend with his new crew, the Majorcan Marta Cardona, the world gold he achieved last year. On the other, the Catalan Silvia Más premires Alejandro de Maqua as a new partner.

A total of 49 crews will be on the World Cup's starting line this Monday, and among them are the hard-fighting British Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris, the Germans Simon Diesch and Anna Markfort and the Paris Olympic champion 2024 Lara Vadlau, who has now moved on to the patron position with Niklas Haberl as a new crew.

Xammar and Cardona come to this important meeting with the confidence given to them by their recent title as European champions, achieved with admirable superiority and after having shared ship only 40 days. The Catalan mallorcan crew has been training in Gdynia, Gdansk Gulf, in Baltic Sea waters all week.

The championship has been held at the Nàutic Club of Arenys de Mar on two weekends and with the participation of 118 optimistic; those of 31 May and 1 June and 7 and 8 June with very good weather conditions that have allowed them to perform six tests in total. Of all of them Damià Galcerà was on the podium as the Champion of Catalonia Sub11 and Sub13.

The last event for the Optimists will be the Team Optimist Championship, held at the Nàutic El Balís Club on June 14 and 15. Manuel Alegret, Hugo Ambrojo, Santi Bes, Marcel Martí and Martín Megía will participate.
