Galician palists continue their good streak in Ponte de Lima
The Spanish delegation continues to be successful at the 2025 Marathon European Championship, which is being held this week in Ponte de Lima (Portugal). In the day the protagonism was clearly Galician thanks to the brilliant triumph of Héctor Vázquez (Lugo River Club) and Jaser Silva (Breogán do Grove Club), which were proclaimed champions of Europe in the category C2 júnior men after a race
impeccable. The success was completed with the excellent performance of the duo of the Club Escuela de Piragüismo City of Pontevedra, formed by Mateo Lago and Alex Barreiro, which was raised with the bronze medal, thus signing a double podium for Galicia in the same continental final.
The victory was for the couple formed by Hector Vázquez (Lugo River Club) and Jaser Silva (Breogán do Grove Club), who dominated the final with authority. They stopped the timer at 1: 15: 35.61, after completing the 15.40 kilometres and three circuit portals. In his wake, and only 36 seconds away, the Hungarians Illes Hancz and Mate Tosa entered (1: 16: 12.10). The podium was completed by another Spanish dupla, also Galician: Mateo Lago and Alex Barreiro, from the Club Escuela de Piragüismo City of Pontevedra, who obtained the bronze medal with a time of 1: 16: 28.13. Its back in the second half of the test was key to ensuring a Galician presence in the podium.
With this result, Galicia brings two medals to the day - gold and bronze - and reaffirms its specific weight within Spanish and international pyragüism. In addition, Hector Vázquez adds his second European medal, after the silver in C1 achieved the previous day.
