Between January and May 2025, 2,014 recreational boats were registered in Spain, compared with 2,278 units that were registered in the same period of 2024. These are the data from the "Recreation boat market report. Enero-May 2025" edited by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN), from the records of the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy.

Of the total enrolment in the first five months of the year, 67.5% are for private use vessels and 32.5% for vessels for the nautical charter. Boats up to 8 meters in length continue to lead the market (86.5%) although they have an annual fall of -11%. The 8 to 12 meters segment also falls by -4%. On the other hand, ships between 12 and 16 metres are growing up in the period under review by 17%. In the segment of ships more than 16 meters, the fall of the enrolments reaches -28.2%.

Motor ships, which account for 44.2% of the market, fall by -10.4% per year in number of enrollments. Water bikes (-28.4%) and sailboats (-18.3%) also suffer from decreases. Folding pneumatic vessels remain the only positive market with an annual increase in enrolment of 38%. The semi-rigid are also negative, with a decrease of -2.4% from January to May.

The market for boats for rent has registered 654 registrations between January and May 2025, compared with 873 in the same period of the previous year, a decrease of -25%. The most representative segment in the charter remains that of boats up to 6 meters. By type of boat, motor boats (13.6%) and water bikes (10.7%) continue to lead the registration for rental use.

Balearic Islands (276), Barcelona (254) and Alicante (188) lead the ranking of provinces with the highest number of enrollments. Baleares has a fall of -34.6%, while Barcelona and Alicante grow by 0.8% and 22% respectively. They also stand out with a higher number of Murcia enrolments (161), with a growth of 41.2%, Pontevedra (99) with a growth of 73.7% and Cadiz (84) growing by 7.7%.

In the charter market, Baleares remains in first position with 167 registrations, although it falls by -32% over the same period last year. It is followed by Alicantes that records 85 registration of recreational boats for rent and grows by 21.4%. Barcelona is the third province with the highest number of registration in the charter market (78) and a fall of -19.6%.
