SailGP cancels Rio de Janeiro event to facilitate repairs to F50's rigid candles

Having identified a defect in some of the F50's rigid candles, SailGP has made the difficult decision to cancel the Rio Grand Prix, which was to be disputed on the next 3 and 4 May. The aim of this measure taken by the competition is to facilitate the necessary repairs before the event in New York (7 and 8 June) and the rest of the 2025 season.

After a thorough review, our engineers and technicians have identified a problem in the union of central material into the structural soul of some of the rigid candles, which could compromise their structural integrity. We have therefore made the prudent decision to suspend the event next month, giving us enough time to complete the repairs and carry out more investigations if necessary, Coutts has said.

According to SailGP policy, all ticket holders for the Rio event will receive a full refund in the next few days, while the championship assesses options to reschedule the event in this 2025 season.

Wave of new inscriptions at the Superyacht Cup Palma 2025

The bay of Palma will welcome no less than four of the elegant and powerful Baltic 68 Café Racers, with the Hormar and the Green Pink Gin joining their 20.7-meter companions designed by Javier Jaudenes, the Ganesha and the Open Season. This quartet will compete in its own class.

Representing another branch of the diverse superyacht family, the Linnear Aurora premiere in the race and will join the Atalante and Vijonara to form a trio of stylized Hoek Tuly Classic 128 in this Mallorcan sailing festival. The Hoek TC will also have a class of their own. Although other ships have also shown their interest in participating, the main candidate to join the starting line in 2025 is the Aquarius, a 47-meter superket signed by Perini Navi. The organizers also celebrate the incorporation of the Sveam, a 24-meter Y8 designed by Jaudenes, which will make its debut in competition.

The presence of the Sveam adds emotion to the high-performance fleet, which is expected to face the friendly competition of the Cervo, a 39-meter Tripp design, as well as the Farr design duo formed by the Gelliceaux - which is premiered in the Superyacht Cup - and the Wally Rose, 24-metre, title defender and aspiring to achieve a triplet in the Superyacht Cup Palma.
